Old 1970's Marti Units settings

I have 2 send units and 2 rec units that have too much noise for broadcast.
Have tried adjusting squelch, rf, audio and NOTHING works. These units
will have to be sent off for repair BUT I thought someone might have an area
of the unit I can look at for a fix. Is this a recifier issue? A diode issue?
Any suggestion apart from the trash heap?
Thanks in advance!

First, set them to the same frequency. Check the transmit frequency, then set the receivers to it exactly. There's a procedure in the maunal. This cures about half the older systems, because over time they drift.

Check or change the preamp tubes in the receiver, I can't remember the part number, but they are the little metal tubes that look like a big old transistor.
