Old Addresses...

I agree. Here's why, no one else is doing anything close to that now. And if you notice, the jocks who get the biggest ratings are those with "personality"!!!!! You put a good quality signal on, entertaining people and it will be a success. It won't be the WARM of old because market conditions as well as society is vastly different. But it can work. The late Tim Durkin always felt that Magic, as its audience grew older might become the FM WARM. But look at the success of WNAK AM when it hit the FM. Your revamped format of WARM would be a success just because it would be different. I also feel that there is room on the FM for a WVCD "Beautiful Music" type format. Yeah, muzak. Again, no one else is doing it.

P.S. You do realize that if you do a WARM FM deal, my kitchen could not hold it. We'd have to rent a building somewhere.
 
Hmm seems like what we are talking about here is full service radio, community inolvement..wow what a concept....Hmmm WARM-fm....the thought of it makes me weak in the knees...come on mega millions....anyway, on the station where I do morning drive at in NY state, i open the request line at 6 am and keep it open throughout my show...the listeners eat it up....u guys hit it right, the concept would work!!! ;D :eek:

Unfortunately, it will never happen. That format would need people, and equipment, and a newsroom, and resources. It would be expensive-- even though it would eventually make money. Ownership around here (and around the country) doesn't seem interested in spending money to make money.

Hey Eeyore............listen up. It can be done if it is manned with people who are community oriented meaning they are willing to pay professionals a living wage. It can be done if the business is put together with the intention of making a profit that can keep the operation in the black, not some stock holding entity that needs to grow their profits every day in order to serve stockholders. It can be accomplished if the owner or owners going in know that this is going to be a "long haul" deal. Anyone wanting profits overnight, we respectfully decline their money. You need a business plan modeled on how the Citizen's Voice formed their "strike" paper in 1978. You hire good people (like yourself), get sales people who can sell the bejesus out of the station and leave them alone (have one sales mtg. a month!) and you promote the heck out of it until people want to puke.

Father Tom, Let me take you for a ride around Harvey's Lake with the top down and a Yonkstur mix on the CD player and we'll hit those marks with a vengeance. When I do this with my wife in the car, I say, "I still got it" and she replies, "Yeah, but nobody wants it anymore!"

Can I come along? We could have a friendly contest of "hitting the post," as some used to call it. It's an acquired skill; once you have it, you have it forever. I could nail 'em every time. Alas, and sadly, Mrs. Yonkstur is right.

Everybody's entitled to their own amusements, but, riding around in a car, pretending to hit music posts?? Your wife is right. Listen to her.
 
Some people play air guitar; at least we are doing something worthwhile.
 
I actually heard Jim Bryant (sp?), when we worked at WILK, smack the post on "Theme From Shaft". It actually had many posts. He nailed dead the vocal. Now, that's just plain showin' off! In retrospect, it think it can more accurately be called superfluous.

When I was in Washington, D.C. at the world famous Career Academy of Broadcasting, a few guys from NEPA (Chuck Pyle was one of them) and myself would pile into Gabe Pappas' hugh 1960 Cadillac (he was a classmate from the Bronx) and motor to Memorial Stadium in Baltimore to see the Orioles. On the way, we'd listen to a DC station, might have been WPLG, WPLJ (Harv Moore was the big jock at the time) to hear the guys do the posts. Then we'd turn on this FM station with no announcers that played mid 60s oldies mixed with early 70s Top 40 and soul. We took turns and went to town. Winner bought the beers when we went to see the Birds. The contest was pretty even but we always tried to distract the driver. Driver: And now, here's Chicago with....... Us: Jesus Gabe, look out for that truck on your tail. It worked at least once every trip.

It's nothing but an ego trip. I can smack this sucker and every one of them. I can slap the net so hard they can hear it back at their mic. I know every note on every intro of every song on our playlist.

It was on that list of requirements, the one you had to have completed if you were ever going to the bigs. Of course, you needed pipes, timing, energy, etc., but nailing those intros was right there on the list. But do this; go back and listen to some old major market airchecks, there are plenty available on different "tribute" sites and also on http://www.reelradio.com/(but reelradio now charges). You might be surprised at how often the jocks we idolized never got near hitting an intro.

You're likely right, Tom. If you ever feel the need, try and dig out a Larry Lujack full-show aircheck and listen to his first hour or so. Not great, not even good, not any better than a ton of guys who passed through this market during those glory years. Same with Robert W. Morgan - for as great as he was, Robert W. could time and temp his way through an hour like a part-timer at WPTS.
 
Getting back to the old addresses thread----how about the former Rebel Radio/Q102/KISS102 building (now a vacant lot) on Rt315 across from KRZ next to Perkins----I always thought that building was condemned and was totally shocked when I found out there was a radio station in there------a totally run-down building---no signs out front---set back from the road---no indication at all as to what was going on in there---who'da thought?????
 
It wasn't there long, but WKGB 92.5 got its start in a modular home just off the Great Bend/Hallstead exit of Interstate 81. It's now somewhere in Binghamton.

Seems to me there used to be an apartment upstairs in that building. If it's the building I think it is, a WARM newsie used to live in that apartment...
