Remeber when the old Class "A" FM channels were limited to only 1,000 watts at Plus 250 feet HAAT ??? What was the First Class "A" to upgrade to full -- 3 KW status ?? It was in the Metro LA area.

It was 92.7 in Thousand Oaks right out of the gate as a CP. Now does anybody know which of the class A's in the LA area was the first with 6kw ?

Let us not forget the Class B .7 KW Flamethrower from Mount Wilson KUTE 102

When was 102.7 ever 700 watts?? Even at 700 watts -- it would be a full class B from Mt Wilson. The old KLAC-FM 102.7 was 8.3 KW at + 2790 feet HAAT. That would make 102.7 equal to a class C0.

KUTE 101.9 called itself KUTE 102 in those days. It's power on mt. wilson was initially 640 watts, later boosted to 680.

IIRC, 101.9 was 700 watts. They somehow managed to get 4.8 kilowatts, which is what they operate with now. It is licensed to Glendale, because it could not cover all of Los Angeles with 700 watts atop Mt. Wilson.

101.9 was licensed to Glendale from the time it went on the air, more than 50 years ago.

The move from Flint Peak to Mt Wilson required a reduction from relatively high power (82 kw at one point, IIRC) to 640 watts (with an adjustment to 680 later), then increased to 2.38 kw* and then to today's level.

* I may have missed a step, as they were constantly trying to improve the power from Wilson, including usage of two different transmitter sites.
