Old commercials still being used

It just so happens that in the Boston area, there are some local commercial jingles that have been used for a very long time. The first one that comes to my mind is the infamous "Have a good night sleep on us, Mattress Discounters!" I remember hearing that one when I was a wee little child back in the late 80s/early 90s riding on the bus going to school. However, I vaguely remember a version with a man singing it, and later with the woman singing it who is still used today, there was a whole verse that went, "Play on it. Pray on it." And I think there was more to it than that. When exactly do you think this jingle debuted?

Another one that is still used from time to time that I remember from when I was very young is "423-4545, Boston moves to the Herald. If you wanna get it movin', call on me (423-4545), put your ad in the Herald today, it's only a call away, just pick up the phone and call.....423-4545, Boston moves to the Herald.

Can anyone else think of any others?

I know this one was a TV ad, but does anyone remember what business had the phone number 272-4070?

8 oh oh,

3 2 5

3 5 3 5

8 oh oh,

3 2 5

3 5 3 5

8 oh oh,

3 2 5

3 5 3 5

Over and bloody over!

Radio stations in Boston and Providence.

For several years.

Probably still running!

What hotel chain???

(they were all tradeouts -- "due bills")

There was a temp. agency called AccountTemps that used to do radio spots with the Boss getting a sick call from his employee "Nerlman". And the boss talking about how great "Bob" from AccountTemps was.

"Don't worry Nerlman... Bob and I are doing just fine."

Who you gonna call when your windshield's busted? 1-800-54-GIANT

not sure how long it's been on but how about the jazz one for the Mt. Vernon Restaurant you always hear on WEEI?

and someone beat me to the punch on the Giant Glass one.

the Herald 423-4545 is a takeoff on an old Wilson Pickett song...

The Bob and Nerlman ads still run on occasion.

Jingle: If your boss threatens to kill ya
If you've been robbed with your last printing job
Call the cops--the Copy Cops!

Jingle: It's the Phoenix, from Boston USA---A!

Jingle: If you're a homeowner and you need a loan
Call the Loan Depot, pick up the phone
Call 1-800-USA Loan, homeowners, if you need a loan

The Wilson Picket song is 634-5789, aka Beechwood 4-5789

How about this jingle, done by jazz artist John Pizzarelli:
The wonder of it all
Take a chance, make it happen
Pop the cork, finger snappin'
(etc.)*
Yeah, let's live for the wonder...of it all
Meet me at Foxwoods--Foxwoods!

*--one TV version of this, with dwarfs playing leprechauns, inserted:
Try your luck, there's more fun to explore
More to rock, more to roll,
More chance to find your pot of gold
And you don't have to be real tall
To live for the wonder of it all

Lincoln Park had some ads imagining dogs singing the jingle; it was based on a classical piece
and finished "bark on my mark, and the place is Lincoln Park"

Call Mr. Duplitron! The jingle sounds like it was recorded in 1980 and has probably been running since that time.

I'm not sure who the voice on the Duplitron commercials is, but he's the same guy who did the Lloyd's Diamond & Gold Outlet of Fine Jewelry commercials that ran on Kiss 108 in the mid to late 80s.

New versions of the Nerlman ad are indeed running. On a more recent note, those ads for a retractable awning featuring a guy telling us about them while a woman nudges him to "Tell them about the discount, Harry," are back, with a much elss annoying female voice.

The original one reminded me of a meddling grandmother.

WBZ is currently running 2 minute ads featuring Gil Santos, Jordan Rich and Tom Cuddy talking by phone with Tanya Roberts about some Orlando resort she's hawking. Same copy on all three spots. Seems to me the sponsor should have come up with three different yet similar versions, for the same station.

I can think of some more.

I know this is national, but that Motel 6 commercial with Tom Bodet (however his name is spelled) and that fiddle music has been the same forever, and it's currently being used for the PBA tour.

I also remember this Bed & Bath commercial that went:

"We've got
Everything you want for your bedroom and bath
Everything at....BED & BATH!!!!"

There's also this one I've heard recently from Worcester...I've only been hearing it for like 2 years, but it has that 80s sound to it, it's "We've got a reason to celebrate, Millbury Ford Mercury!" What I've noticed is, that since it's such a small company, the background music used in it is a bit much. How old do you think this one is?

And believe it or not, I can think of ANOTHER one that sounded like Wilson Pickett. "976-1234, it's the lotto line."

Your mention of the Millbury Form Mercury jingle makes me want to hear the gospel-sound of the Dave Dinger Ford jingle one last time:

How does Dinger do it (come and see)!
Come to Daaaaaave Dinger Ford, in Braintree (in Braintree!)

Waaaa-Waaa-Wachusett... Wachusett Mountain, mountain skiing, minutes away...

That's been running in some form or another since the late 80s/early 90s.

How about the phone jingle for Mrs Nelson's Candy House? It ran for years as 508- and the number. Didn't sound nearly as good when they had to add more syllables for "978"

... I remember that there were times that the Nerlman "virus" ad sounded as though the tape had been slowed down.

ah, the Loan Depot... Bill Camuti was on those ads and he went to jail for mail fraud in the early 90s...

the Lincoln Park ads were hilarious... 'GO TO LINCOLN PAAAAAHK'

... the Foxwoods one is overdone at this point, especially when you see it half a dozen times every night while watching the Sox or listening to WEEI. Isn't that John Pinette who says "meet me at Foxwoods"? Also, they even had a spanish language ad for awhile with the same music.

PS - I'm now living in Atlanta, and that AccounTemps (Nerlman, 'Bob') ad runs CONSTANTLY....

I really miss: "How many cookies did Andrew eat ... Andrew 8-8 thousand". It hasn't been used for years - but was on the air in Boston for more than 25 years.

Lincoln Park radio ads

audio for Lincoln Park (amusement park in S.Dartmouth, MA)
I would like to locate their old radio spots. The ownership of the park was in
my family, and I have a great personal interest!
