Old DFW news openings/clips on youtube

Someone has taken it upon themselves to post old DFW news clips/intros from the 1980s on youtube, heres the link to the menu incase anyone wants to check it out:

http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=bdsnook

We should see more of this, Id like to see how these things looked back then since I was very young to remember....Id also like to see sign-offs and graphic bumpers from KTXA, KDFI, KDAF, KXTX, and KRLD (Ch.33)

Oh ya....Steve Bosh. What ever happened to him? I always thought he was a good newscaster. Do some more searches (in YouTube) on KDFW, KXAS, and WFAA, there's quite a few oldies and bloopers. Note that the station voice for channel 4 in the 80's, was Charlie Van Dyke.

There is also a clip of the legendary Chief Meteorologist Harold Taft doing a full segment of weather!!! I miss those Harold-isms soooo much!! At the time, he used the hand-drawn maps, non-doppler radio, and the non-color enhanced satellite picture. And NO extended forecasts!!! Amazing how far technology has come in the past 25 years!

I was surprised that he interacted so much with the anchors in this clip. Surely :D, he didn't interact nearly as much in the mid-to late 80's, but that may have been because of the cancer.

Does anyone know who the female anchor was in that clip?

FORMER AA That woman anchor on kXAS was a former Miss America,Fomer Miss Oklahoma..Jayne Jayroe. She was an anchor in OKC when KXAS hired her. She wanted to go back to OKLA after three years and was replaced by Alyce Caron. Alyce in a backstage political backstab..was replaced by "Anne McGarry". It was todays Jane McGarry,in which management told her she couldn't use "Jane" so viewers would not confuse her with Jayroe. When Alyce took over,Anne McGarry became Jane Anne McGarry. The "Anne" was dropped 6 months after Jayroe left, and McGarry made waves that she deserved the 10p slot instead of the 12noon, otherwise She would go to Channel 8,which some sources said wanted her to do the 5pm and weekends. Alyce is much better looking and smarter and every now and then you can hear her on WBAP.

I'm trying to remember who the other lead anchor at Channel 5 during the Action News times of the early 80s was and whatever happened to them?

Thanks, KPLEX! When I first lived in the Metroplex in 1986, I remember Brad Wright and Alyce Caron (did her name pronounciation change over the years???). In one of the earlier clips on youtube, she says "Alice" (standard). However, I recall in 1986 that she pronounced it "Aleese" (Spanish). Am I hallucinating?

I also remember Clarice Tinsley and Steve Bosh on the "Channel 4 News" with Walter Evans in the mornings and Barbara White on the weekends. During the summer of 1986, I recall a major scandal around a weekend (?) sports guy who threw Clarice into a swimming pool. IIRC, Clarice refused to come back to work until they fired the guy. Obviously, the poor sports guy had not spent much time around African-American women. Otherwise, he wouldn't have messed with her hair.

Finally, I remember the 7:25am updates sponsored by The Travis Avenue Baptist Church, where "Jesus Is Lord". It was my first time in the Bible Belt. I remember wondering how a church could afford this kind of commercial during the Today show. Of course, I later found out about megachurches and oil money...

I stumbled onto this the other day....

http://www.hsn.com/cnt/hsn_today/hosts/default.aspx?id=55

I had no idea she was doing TV shopping stuff now -- a show host for America's Store (the second HSN channel). The link also lists the next several shows she'll be doing.

I remember well her on-screen crush with ex-Rangers' Bobby Valentine...it was hilarious how everyone on the set tried to tell her, he's like, uhhh, married (she didn't seem to care).

BTW, I set up a list of video newsclip links from YouTube for Ch. 5 on their Wikipedia page, in date order. I haven't tried yet to find other links of Ch. 5 video samples to add to the list. Great to see a classic Harold Taft forecast again after so long. He was actually given TIME to do it!!

Of course, Harold just took whatever time he needed :D! After all, he had more senority than anyone in the whole newsroom. And he was the reason most people turned to KXAS in those days. Most people considered Channel 5 as the "Ft. Worth station" (i.e. inferior to "Dallas stations")/

Fomer AA;That Sports Guy was the well known( and still is ) Kevin McCarthy..later a talk show host on KLIF.

In answer to who was Jayne Jayroe's Anchor, that was Dave (Remmington?). I know for sure his first name was Dave and he had a PA show on sundays with the first "Talkback". He replaced.....Chip Mooody...who later went to ch. 4 and actually beat Ch.8 in the ratings twice with Clarice ( they have never done that since). Belo saw that, and convinced him to come to work for them and go to KHOU in Houston for almost a year while his no-compete was enforced, the nhe went to Ch.8 Becoming the only anchor guy who has worked all 3 major network affiliated stations in DFW.

Kinda reminds me of after Bob Gooding came to East Texas to KETK for a few years, my grandparents would always remember how good he was at Channel 8...

before Bob Gooding went to KETK he taught Radio/TV at Navarro College in Corsicana for 2/3 years.

The "Dave" with Jane Jayroe was Dave Layman - after Dallas, I recall seeing him in Providence and Baton Rouge...

Apparently now he's a media consultant.

Jim

I remember Dave Layman from Providence!! Didn't he show up in 1983 at WLNE there? I was in college in Providence at the time. Later in the 90's, he came back as News Director at WLNE.

I didn't know that he had anchored in Dallas. Wow, you learn new things everyday around here. :D

I'm guessing that the Action News clip with Charles Ely anchoring for Dennis Holly (I think that's how his name was spelled) was a weekend opening then. I had thought that Holly was the anchor for the noon news.....whatever happened to him?

Dennis Holley had to retire. He had back problems, that was causing him tremendous pain. He underwent several surgeries for it.

Then they brought in a look-a-like Dennis, named Dennis Sargent (at least his mother-in-law Endora called him Dennis.) The program continued for 3 more years until "Samantha" Jayroe called it quits. Or am I confusing this with something else? ???
