Old Hymns

RoundMound said:
nor do I hear any of the good hymns anymore either...
We still sing them at my church, though we're always getting upset with our preacher for selecting hymns that no one knows or can sing. And he's not young either.

I'm happy to say that except when the Youth sing or we have solo performances instead of the choir, we haven't given in to that taped contemporary music trend. Which is ironic because we have a college nearby.

Why not add a few OLD HYMNS with some Christmas music. Sure would pick up the tempo sume don't you think???

Z Man

;D ;D

I heard the most beautiful version of one of the great old Christmas songs last night. I can't remember now what song it was. I thought I was on WMAG, but it turned out to be WHPE. Imagine my thinking Delilah would ever play anything that sounded that good.

My aunt's church did a Christmas cantata Sunday. For those of you who don't know that term, you could call it a concert by the choir during the morning service.

They used taped music. It wasn't as bad as what I've heard on WRCM and WMIT, although both stations can be this soft. Nevertheless, even though some of it was traditional with a contemporary beat, the drums and everything distracted from the message for me.

Since this is the Raleigh-Greensboro board, I should say WBFJ, but I haven't even heard them in a long time. I end up on WMIT trying to hear Mix 106 at home, and on WRCM trying to hear Rock 92 (hey, they play some good stuff every once in a while).

This seems to be turning into a church thread rather than a radio one, but that's OK. Churches must keep up with technology in order to attract and keep the interest of young people. Those churches that don't adapt, will find their congregation going the way of the Beautiful Music audience of the 70s. (just keeping a little radio reference here).

RoundMound started this thread and he has ALWAYS had an off-beat sense of humor! :D

Yes, I once saw him dressed as a Nun. Laughed my butt off! Funny, funny guy!

Well he reminded me of the FLYING NUN.... Hee hee hee.... Round you are the man . Ya'll should hear his hour of teaching and preachin in the old fashion way one heck of a 15 minute Rel. porgram!!

Classic YES

;D What we really need is Old Floyd Leonard with Bill Thacker Live with the Harvestors Quartet.. Now That was Music

I don't plan to adapt, sorry.

Eventually I accepted standards as a replacement for beautiful music.

Oh it's true. I have on occasion dressed up like a Nun. Had to give it up though when the other sisters made me feel inadequate when their mustache's were thicker than mine. That outfit got me many-a-discount down at The Dress Barn though.

This is certainly a beautiful time of year and Round Mound is taking some well deserved time off from the cruisade. Think me and the poodles might go to mama's for the Holidays and watch her drink herself friendly. After that I'll get back to putting my demo tape together for MTV's "The Real World".

Hope you all have a nice Holiday,
R.M. :)

I wonder if 93.9 in Raleigh will play old hymns? At least a preachin' show or two on Sunday mornings. Perhaps me and the Doctor could pool our money together and buy 15 or 30 minutes.....

Probably not, but some of that music they play in black churches sounds just like what's on radio stations like Kiss.

Not that I can hear Kiss. I only hear Majic. But I can read.

Friends and neighbors of the broadcast the Rev Roundmound will hold a tent in Denton this Sunday to ring in the new year. Can you feel the POWER frinrends????????

:eek: ::) :p :D ;D :( :mad: :mad: h

I was thinking about this the other day.

WGTL used to sign off with "The Lord's Prayer" each day, but the local paper said it was by Perry Como when the station signed off for good in 1992. But Perry Como doesn't sing like that. It was more like opera.

WGTL was mostly standards, but they had a show called "Hymns of the Church". I'm not sure when it aired. Probably just whenever the owner wanted it on. It was the best Christian music show I know of.

No, it's not a station in either of these markets, but it fits the topic.
