Was visiting the East Tennessee mountains recently and ran into a guy at a gift shop who did afternoons at
WPLO - his name was Chuck Lowe. He did his thing at PLO along with John Foxx, Mac Curtis and I believe
Johnny Kay was there about the same time - early to mid 60s. He said he'd done stints in Nashville, St. Louis and in the Orlando area to name a few. Out of the business now - infact - he was the owner of that gift shop
we were visiting. Said he was glad to be out of the business and after many years came to the realization that there was life after radio.

i think thats why alot of us do it...its kind of like getting away with not having a "real" job...but still being able to live nicely...for as long as you can...i'm at twenty years right now...and i probably have 7 or ten years left in me...then, i wanna own a gift shop!...or bar...but, its a gamble. i have a great job at a great company...not all of us do...i wonder how colleges can morally take kids money, with the promise of a great job in radio, that makes me sick...and i play those ads...easy math...say there's 6000 fm radio station in the country...3000 of those are crap...out of the 3000 left...1500 are the kind you want to work for!...maybe...say each station has 6 full time jocks(yea, right)...i think thats about 9000 jobs...and colleges graduate 150,000 students a YEAR for a fabulous life in radio!...enjoy....
