Old KLOK Airchecks

Does anyone know where I can get some old KLOK airchecks(preferably 1972-88)?
I tried to listen to the aircheck, but the link didn't work. Maybe a KLOK history website
would be nice.

What do you think?

Hank,

You didn't say what non-working link you were talking about. The only 2 checks I know about are at the Bay Area Radio Museum site - a 74 check of the KLOK-AM morning show, and an 87 check of KLOK-FM's last hour and the flip to KKSF. The second one was discussed on the "Yes/No Radio" thread you started some time ago.

Hanky,

If the links on the museum website don't work, please contact me through the museum website. I don't always check my messages here... ;D

But, just in case anybody noticed, we did have another server wipeout (yup, two in less than a year) and I have had to move the nearly 30,000 files to a new server. Since many of the files are friggin' huge, it takes a while to get them re-loaded, but I'm working on it.

I have located a few more long KLOK/1170 'checks from around 1988 that are being uploaded as I write this. They should be good to go by this afternoon.

The new server is at http://www.sfradiomuseum.com temporarily until I merge bayarearadio.org back into it. (You can tell which server you're on by the new/different logo on sfradiomuseum.com.)

If there is anything missing (from any station) that you have an urgent jones to listen to, please feel free to email me directly (or PM me through Radio-Info.com) and I'll get it going for you pronto-like.

If anybody is interested in putting together a history of KLOK (or any station) for the radio museum, I'd be pleased as punch to post it promptly. I've got a digest version of the station's history, but it mostly covers technical things and management changes, not format changes, air personnel, etc.

WASSUP! I was finally able to listen to the old KLOK aircheck from 1974 and it was good.

Does anyone know of any more classic KLOK airchecks from the 1970's and 80's(similar to the one from 1974?)
If so, please let me know. THANKS!

There are three August 1988 airchecks up at Mike Schweizer's collection at:

http://audio.lns.com/ms_airchecks/

They are really good - but left me craving for more. This was GOOD radio...

Mike's got some incredible stuff in his collection. There are bootleg copies of his stuff available everywhere (Ebay, private collectors, etc.), but you can go through and backload the originals straight from Mike's collection, as noted by Dave:

There's rare Wolfman Jack, KMPX, KYA, KFRC, KDIA, KBGG, KKCY, etc., material and more. (The server space for all this is maintained by the great Tim Pozar.)

Mike just filled up a drive with 14 gigs of even more new stuff for me a few weeks ago ... I'm working on getting it up on the server.

DJ,

Do let us know if you come across more KLOK airchecks in that gold mine...

As for the crashes, are you using a RAID array? Buffalo makes a particularly good one, but really just a RAID card and an extra drive or two should do the trick.
