Old KSJL question....

During the early 1990s, when KSJL was still only on 760AM, there was a program that aired after midnight, M-F, hosted by a DJ by the name of 'Hollywood Hernandez'. I don't remember the name of the show, which had its own promos and was mentioned by HH in between the music sets and after the breaks. The music was an excellent selection of R&B and slow jams, with a 1-800 phone number offered for requests and dedications. Was this a homegrown KSJL product or a syndicated national show, if so, where did it originate from? Who was 'Hollywood Hernandez' and where is he now?

Perhaps you are not familiar with this new thing called "The Google".

It sounds like Solid Gold Soul from what became ABC Radio. I have lots of airchecks of it up on my site including some of Hollywood Hernandez on various affiliates including WWWS Buffalo (East Coast page), WJMO Cleveland (Ohio page) and KSGS Minneapolis (Minnesota Page). HH currently does overnights on the The Touch Urban AC service from Citadel soon to be Cumulus.

In 1992 When KSJL flipped from SMN's Z-Rock format to SMN- The Touch format you had Hollywood Hernandez. I never listened to KSJL AM past 10pm I was only 12 back then. But KSJL's Urban AC format started as SMN-The Touch. Then 1 year later when they moved to KSAQ the abandon the Touch format and gear it towards a local audience. That started when they first aired on 96.1 fm. That would be comparing a True Oldies station that flipped to Classic Hits as True Oldies is Citadel (formally SMN) all stations that were SMN aff. play same music same jocks same everything except commercials. What is on Austin's KXXS is the same is streaming on the web from another station playing True Oldies except commercial and traffic wise.
