Old KZZP Airchecks

Maybe I should start saving KZON Airchecks so I could have it to post back when I log in in 2032.
Does anyone have the old airchecks of Power 92 when they used to say "Official Listeners Frequency..."?

This reminds me of back when I used to mimmick all my favorite stations on cassette tape, I used to always say "Official Listeners Frequency" in addition to my fake station's name in between the songs. Now that I think of it, my parents and siblings had to put up with a lot over the years...

Very Cool. I heard they did an Alternative show, but I never knew of it during the time. Must have been right before they flipped. I know KUKQ was already in full swing during that time...wonder how they felt about the show. I have some cassettes of The Edge 106.3 when they first came about in 92, and it was the same type of imaging.

I do remember the imaging from the Edge. I still have to find a partial broadcast I have of Planet Dance on Power 92 from either '91 or '92. That was the show that Tim Byrd started in New York, but brought to Phoenix that also aired on Voltage FM in Paris as well as some Markus Schulz "Edge Factor" shows that aired on the Edge.

In my cassette library, I recently uncovered the start of KZZP's 1991 stunting (From KZZP to KVRY)... Apparently no one else has it... I will just have to actually get one of my old RCA cassette decks to work so I can dub it digitally. I also have some other KZZP Klassics.

On a related note, is it worth getting one of those cassette decks that is designed (or at least marketed) to convert tapes to MP3? Or is it best to just save the money and hook up a traditional deck through the line-in jack on a computer? Up to this point, I've been using the latter approach, but it just seems to take so much time due to the need to use audio-editing software, adjust the audio levels for each tape, etc.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to pop in a tape, have the MP3 created, and move on to the next tape.

BY doing it the way you are, you're fidelity is probably better.

Painful, yes, but those who listen to your efforts will be rewarded with a better sounding item.

This is going to be one of my goals for 2011. Going to go through all my old tapes, put the ones I want on MP3 and get rid of the rest. Have lots of "goodies" but need the time and the effort to do the dubbing to MP3. grrrr if only I didn't work.

Good luck! I started converting all of my old airchecks a while back. Between work and other parts of life getting in the way, over 4 years later I'm only about half done.

For "justthenumbers" you're going to save minimal time getting the mp3 device. Since every tape is somewhat different, you'll still likely end up tweaking the fidelity and editing it anyway. Save yourself the money!

Thanks for the links bro. I wasn't in the Valley at that time and have wondered what The Edge sounded like in the mid 90s. Sounded about what I expected. There was so much good music out at that time. How crazy is it how much gold is played on modern rockers now vs. then. Somehow the format lost its way.

thanks to Tanim Hussain for converting my KZZP KEDJ cassettes for SoundCloud. much appreciated.

Someone asked about Power 92 airchecks. I have a quite a few. I did nights there as Kidd Kelly when we flipped from KKHR to Power 92 in 88. Was there until I think late 89. We were leaning more top 40/alternative back then. I'm working on getting my aircheck collection transfered to CD/wav.
I also have composites of Phoenix Radio that I produced back then as well. I'll do what I can to keep you updated.

Oh Man! I found an old aircheck online of a station I worked at back in KY.....I can only imagine what I sounded like back at the "Y"!
