Old Production vinyl discs

Some of the random odds and ends I have saved from my former radio days sometimes boggle the imagination. While putting some unrelated stuff in the attic the other day, I came across a large box of old production discs, circa 1968-1971. These were gleaned years and years ago while cleaning out the back room of a station where I used to work They include military recruiting spots of various length, musical jingles from Montomery Wards, Tastee Freze and various other chain retailers. Since I didn't actually thumb through everything, that's probably just scratching the surface of all that's in there.

To me, they're just of dubious value, but I got to wondering...are these actually worth anything, or is it just another box of junk cluttering up my attic?

Does anyone have a clue? ???

Before you do anything else, make a digital copy of them. Some of those old jingles would make a great archive. Worth? maybe historical or sentimental. You could try ebay. It's worth whatever someone pays

Any of the old S.O.B. vinals? Ah yes, the Sounds of Broadcasting. Who here remembers those? I worked at a couple of stations that still used them up to 2000!!!!!

I inhereted most of the "Production Source" - TM Century 1978 and "The Producer" - TM Century 1973 and am in the process of transferring to digital. Most discs are in great shape, it is just a real work in progress.

I have the old Pepper-Tanner "Sounds of Radio-oh-oh" discs with generic jingles..for darn near anything..

"Your fay-vrit cut..of juicy beef..cooked so it melts in your mouuuuuth..you're family will love our steak-houuuuuse"

"Spring is here..spring is here..yes indeed!..Let's all cheer 'cause Spring is Heeeeeere!"

"Curtain up it's showtime folks..light up the staaaayyge..we put the spotlight on value..and you come shining thruuu"

I have them all on casettes, and listen to them in the car exclusively. My wife thinks I am nuts..but:

"We have nuts..all kinds of nuts..roasted and bagged just for youuuuu! Our selection will astound you toooooo!

A pretty damn far cry from those Nutri-System spots eh Jeff?

or if you really want to unload them, maybe donate them to the museum of television and radio.

but like uppendowndadial suggested, make a digital copy first. a few CDs are easier to store than a bunch of LPs.

Oooh... I'd love a copy of The Production Source on CD. You lucky bastard. That was my first production library!

The library I wish I never gave away was the RCA Thesaurus series. More than once I with I had a track off that.

I agree, Producer was very good, as was/is Winning Score, which JonesTM still sells.

Yep. I still have a number of the "SOB's". I first used the library in the 70's, and at one time set out to convert them to CD, but got sidetracked by real life.
