Old Proposed WWVA Move

Remember that failed attempt to move WWVA to Strongsville? I never heard how the proposal was going to deal with 1150 Cuyahoga Falls? Or was that one of the factors that killed the proposal?

1150 would have been purchased and taken dark as part of the move, if memory serves.

There's some discussion about WWVA going on over at the Pittsburgh board, on the thread about 1360 there being donated.

Wasn't WWVA supposed to be a Sports station if it was moved to the Cleveland area? If so, how would that have affected the radio scene?

WWVA was going to be licensed to Stow and serve as a sports talk station (probably with Fox Sports Radio).

If 1170 is in the Cleveland market, the Browns would still be in the CC portfolio, as that would have been the simulcast partner with WMMS, (with 1100 making it a 3-way after Tribe season).

And if 1170 had a sports format going, who knows if CBS would have even tried to flip 92.3?

And 1350 in Akron would have had a different format, as CC wouldn't want to cannibalize 1170's sports format...maybe they would have stuck it out with libtalk (and made more of a full market targeted station)

My guess is CBS would've flipped 92.3 to Sports after all. WKNR would've ended up flipping to another format - perhaps some sort of News/Talk like WHK considering Salem owned 850 at the time of the proposed move of WWVA.

1350 might've ended up as Sports as well to target Akron and air Akron-related games, maybe teaming up with sister station WWVA.

The bigger question would be how 1170 might've affected 1100 with its Sports-related coverage and the other FM stations in the Cleveland cluster. Plus, if WMMS had still picked up Rover, where would his studio ended up if WWVA ended up with the one he has now?
