Old Radio Shows

As a feature, they work very well. WMEL in Cocoa/Melbourne used to do well with a series called WHEN RADIO WAS... not sure how it would work
as a format itself.

I hear WSRQ runs Old Time Radio Shows on Sunday nite from 8-11PM. Just wanted to get a feel about this.

Mabey this will work. It seems like a good time slot for it. I guess we'll see.

There are a lot of groups doing audio dramas that could easily be picked up. misfitsaudio.com is reproducing old scripts of The Lone Ranger that have come into public domain as well as a number of original series that could easily be picked up. Colonial Radio Theater of the Air is a professional group which already is producing shows aired on XM/Sirius. There's plenty of content out there if anyone cares to look and take a chance on thinking a bit outside the box.

We ran "When Radio Was" at WLVU years ago in a late night time period. We were music intensive and it was only after Art Fleming called that we opted to pick the show up. Fleming lived just north of us and visited the station a number of times. Art Fleming was a great guy who made everyone he met feel special. He attended our station Christmas party and one of my birthday parties. Sadly, Art passed away after a short illness. "When Radio Was" was received nicely by our listenership. "Zoomer" radio in Toronto is running old radio shows at night. You can pick them up on the internet.

In addition to When Radio Was, Syndication Networks also syndicates The Twilight Zone Radio Dramas, two hours a week, and Jim French's Imagination Theater does an hour a week of original dramas.

IRN-USA Radio still airs Victor Ives Golden Age of Radio Theater, and I do a weekly retrospective and my 24 hour Old Time Radio Christmas Marathon.
