Old School 105.3 !!

It launched today at 5PM,

1st songs were:

Lakeside - Fantastic Voyage
McFadden & Whitehead - Ain't No Stoppin Us Now
O'Jays - For The Love Of Money
Zapp & Roger - Cutie Pie

Sounds like it's being fed via HD Radio as I keep hearing some digital static...
but it sounds like it's got a Rhythmic AC lean, so far I'm happy. ;D

They may be moving the format to 105.3 and launching a new format on 92.7? I doubt they'd do a simulcast since 105.3 covers more than 92.7. Radio One does typically have Urban AC on it's strongest signal.

Not surprised. Not exactly what I predicted, but close enough.

I'd definitely say MY 92.7 will go away. What will they replace it with? They tried Hip Hop before. A non-Urban format?

Hmm, not so sure I like strictly old school with no current R&B. I think Radio One feels that they may have the upper hand on the older demo with this format. Tom Joyner will switch to Old Scool 105.3 and i'm sure Rickey Smiley Morning Show is coming to 92.7

Maybe ''some'' Oldies Radio Entity will acquire 92.7 and bring OLDIES back to CHARLOTTE on this Freq. Steve...

I have heard some good ''Retro 80's'' Urban Hits back when I used to DJ back in the bar back in South Carolina. SO FAR, SO GOOD....

This new format is similar to the "Rhythmic Oldies" format on KSOC in Dallas (Old School 94.5) which is also a Radio One station. So far I really like it, they do play quite a few titles that are under the Rhythmic AC umbrella. This is the kinda station I've been talking about that could work in Charlotte and I'm glad something finally came around. Wonder how long they'll be commercial free. ;)

I listened in some today, since I had to travel across Charlotte to the South Park Mall area. Great reception, sounded a lot better than the Mexican Poder 105.3 ever did. I notice they have a Charlotte number. On the way home (out of Center City, Charlotte), the signal seem to have trouble with ghosting and imaging. The Tuner in my car had some trouble keeping the same level of reception I had seen in Center City. I don't know if it was overwhelmed or underwhelmed.

Other than that, from what I have heard, I think it will serve a niche market, and possibly steal some listeners from the other competing stations. Steve.

I heard "Rapper's Delight" but then there was EBS test, or perhaps a real EBS warning, just after it started. Too bad, because that's one of my favorite rap songs.

I didn't see Mark Washburn's article on this until the weekend, but he actually described the format as "oldies". And it's not. And I just happened to see comments when I went to the online version so I could properly document everything on Wikipedia. Some people were mad they didn't get a new "oldies" station. And some miss Mix 106. I wonder if they know they can hear that music on WAVO? Not the way Mix 106 sounded in the morning after Magic 96.1 became The Beat, but the way it sounded when the music was coming from Texas.

The Jackson brothers sure sounded good back in the day.

I don't know why my radio station doesn't play their "Never Can Say Goodbye" since it's softer than the Gloria Gaynor version they do play, but then Michael makes so much noise.
