Old-schoolin' and coolin' on "B-97FM"

anyone hear B97 since this morning?? they've been playing old school all morning and calling themselves "B97FM" & "B97.1". what's the deal? did they change formats or is this a stunt for more changes to come? i also keep hearing old jingles from back in the day and i don't mean the b97.1 jingles........i mean the "sono"voice ones from the late 80's etc.
______________

True... it's a stunt and a good one at that. lol I don't think any changes are coming though. Anyone enjoying it all? I am! Some of those songs I haven't heard in years!!

The old jingles you hear are mine. Little scratchy, but good enough. I have them on cassette along with hours of aircheck from B-97 from the late 1980's to late 1990's. It's amazing to hear Allen Beebe, Bubba Carson (Paul Donovan now on KYGO, Denver), Caddilac Jack, Bo Walker, etc. all over again. EVEN Walton & Johnson doing a "Movie Ninja Thursday" bit, when they were on the B!!

Brings back memories of those days....
______________

B97 is famous for pulling april fools jokes by flipping the format... .. I remember in the 90s they playing songs like it was 1980.... Now if they would stunt as their former selves as say Dsico 97 or even as the former beautiful music (if my memory serves) 97.

disco 97! wow that is an old one......... many dont remember that. more so when it was the beautiful music. wasn't it the simulcast of WBYU or 990am or something??

i quit listening to b97 a little while back but after seeing this, i decided to tune in. not that bad. i did hear about 5 or 6 repeats but for the most part, it was almost a different song every time. pretty cool i guess!

now if we could just hear most of these songs more often that'd be great!!!
______________

Bo Walker? Yeah buddy... didn't he used to do middays or something on B97? And then he did mornings on 104.1 or 105.3? He used to be with that chick Athena if I'm thinking of the right guy??? It was Bo and she used some other name. All I remember is that they sucked so I listened to old school 102.9 until they changed.

It was Bo and Beth on 105.3 then Lite 92.3. Athena and Beth are two diffferent people.

I wonder if my old Don Banks jock shout jingles are still hanging around at B-97? Hmm...

Bo Walker did the 7pm to midnight shift on B-97 for a little while. I have an aircheck of him doing "The Top 9 at 9" on B-97FM. He went by his full radio name "Bo Walker."

Athena was with Jeff for a while, then Duncan James on 105.3 The Zone until it was flipped to Bayou.

And as far as jock-shout jingles go... we'd be so lucky Don. Nothing like that is still lying around. If it is, they don't want anyone to get a hold of them. I used to work there as a part-time jock. I'm a BIG collector of jingles and liners from the past on stations here in New Orleans, especially B-97. If they still had all of that within reach, I'd have it all on disc! Know what I mean?! ;o)

I'm sure you already know this, but for one when those big corporations come in with their new PD's, they throw out everything without regard to a stations heritage or background. "That's corporate America son," I was once told. "We don't need the past." I think they forget that without the past, we wouldn't be where were at today....

Second, if they did still have 'em, they'd be thrown out by now for sure. The current PD hates jingles because "jingles are old-school!" Well...... I guess he made an exception for Saturday for the April Fools show on the B. He used some old jingles and liners I had for the show.

Typical. I have a couple of contacts there so I'll see what I can find out but you're probably right. I was there in '88 so that's quite a while ago. A few years ago I emailed the producer of the jock shouts (the great Bobby Ocean) but got no response.

Ow well.
