Old shows & their cars

I'll bet a lot of people who read this board have noticed in a lot of old reruns
the characters seem to drive only one kind of car. Probably the folks that weren't around for the original showing of the series don't realize they were sponsered by car companies. For example, Bewitched was sponsered by Chevolet so you only see Darin (Durwood)driving a Chevy. Hazel was sponserd by Ford. Steve Douglas drove a Pontiac because that's what sponsered My Three Sons. Where else would you see a bunch of Studebakers but on Mr. Ed -sponsered by Studebaker. To the best of my recollection Ford never sponsered Andy Griffth (the squad car was always a Ford) or Chrysler The Beverly Hillbillies (Miss Jane always had a Dodge - but the truck was an Oldsmoble) Several other shows had car sponsors. Can you come up with any?

Hawaii 5-O used mainly Fords, as vehicles were "furnished" by Ford. However other makes were scened.

The second Engine 51 on Emergency! was provided by Ward-LaFrance.
______________

The FBI was sponsored by Ford. Everyone in their world drove a Ford. I always thought they should have had the criminals drive Chevys!
______________

You Bet Your Life-DeSoto Dealers

From a DVD I have-Ellery Queen (1951 DuMont Version)..Was sponsored by Kaiser-Fraizer Automobiles..Which I had barely heard of till recently..Though I diidnt notice the make of cars they drove..

"Mr. Ed" was sponsored by Studebaker.

While I can't say that I recall the stars driving that brand, I know on the credits of some of shows there is/was a picture of a Stude...

Re: "The FBI"...They even went so far as to have OLD Fords for most of the bad guys to drive while Inspector Erskine drove around in the latest model of the Mustang.

Even trucks, panel, delivery and TT units were Fords.
______________
"What's That?" "French Horns!"

Green Acres: Oliver drove a Lincoln Continental or Mercury Marquis convertible throughout the series. Hank Kimble drove a Ford Bronco. Not sure of the truck that Mr. Haney used.

> that's what sponsered My Three Sons.

Actually,Chevrolet sponsored My Three Sons, because in the black and white episodes they showed at the end of the show the latest Chevrolet cars and trucks. Possibly when they went to color that Steve drove a Pontiac.

Adam-12:The patrol cars were made by Chrysler or Dodge.
Emergency:The first Engine 51 was made by Dodge.
Get Smart:I believe that Max drove a foreign car.
Andy Griffith:The patrol car was made by Ford(Ford Fairlanes to be exact)
I Dream Of Jeannie:Major Nelson drove a Pontiac GTO
Dragnet(1967-1970):Friday drove a Chrysler
Brady Bunch:Mike first drove a Chevrolet, then a Chrysler, then back to Chevrolet in the last season(a Chevrolet Caprice to be exact)

The Rockford Files (1974-80) You could spot Season #1's Firebird very easily. It was the only season in which The Firebird had dual exhaust. At the start of every new season James Garner got the newest year. Same color of course! In the most recent 'Rockford TV movies' Garner is driving around in a 1977 or 78 Firebird. If you look closely, you'd see the Firebird has power windows.Every Firebird in the series had roll down windows.

Kojak: 1973-1978: Telly Savalas drove a dark brown Buick 4dr.Except for a brief time during the 76-77 season it was a light tan

Starsky & Hutch 1975-1979. Used several Gran Torino's ranging from 1974-1976. Later models had Bucket seats.Soul & Glaser were not too thrilled with the full bench seats found in the 1974 model.

Chips 1977-1983: Dodge Coronet/Dodge Monaco/Dodge Polara varied years.Once Wilcox left the show its final year. Crusiers were no longer prominent. Just a focus on motorcycles. Ponch drove a gold colored (which started out primer gray due to a fire, as depicted in a episode) Pontiac Firebird (1970-71) Final Season 82-83 Ponch was in a newer model (1982 Firebird)

Spenser: For Hire: Robert Urich in your mid to late 60's Ford Mustang. Until 1986-87 season was replaced with a much newer 1986 Ford Mustang. Then back to a 60's vintage for the final season 1987-88. Avery Brooks drove a black BMW coupe from 1985-86. Then changed to a white one 1986-88.

> Get Smart:I believe that Max drove a foreign car.

Max drove a Sunbeam Tiger, but opening credits in some years had him in a VW Karmann Ghia. I don't know if VW was a sponsor. He can be seen in a Citroen 2CV during the wedding episode in season 4, but that was the only time that car was shown. In the 5th and final season he drove a gold Opal sportscar. IIRC Opals were imported by GM through Buick dealers.

> Adam-12:The patrol cars were made by Chrysler or Dodge.

Partialy true, in later years there were AMCs.

> Emergency:The first Engine 51 was made by Dodge.

The first Engine 51 was a Crown Fire Coach, it was followed by a Ward-Lafrance rig in later episodes. Squad 51 was always a Dodge.
______________

Speaking of which, anyone know what make of motorcycles the CHiPs used?

Same with "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Green Acres". Take a look at the credits the next time you watch either show and it will say "Vehicles Furnished By the Ford Motor Company". Most of the shows from the sixties and seventies had the "Vehicles Furnished By" credit at the end of their show.

I believe Mr. Haney's truck was a 1926 pickup.
I think the Hoyt-Claggwell tractor Mr. Douglas had was a Ford tractor from the 1930s.
