Old Songs That Could Make A Comeback Today

Just wondering if it's possible nowadays for an old song to be re-released and make it on the Pop (or Hot AC) charts again. and even surpassing it's original popularity. I'm not thinking about a song covered by another artist or sampled, but the original artist. The song could be remixed with the same artist, but basically keeping it's original form.

A couple of examples for years past: "When I'm With You" by Sheriff, that came back to peak at #1 back in early 1989. Or the remix version of "December 1963 Oh What A Night" by the 4 Seasons that re-charted back in 1994.

My pick for a comeback would be "Montego Bay" by Bobby Bloom from 1970. A happy beat, that still sounds unique and would probably sound better with the right remix.

Can you think of any others, and why?

Honestly, Los Umbrellos "No Tengo Dinero" never really got a fair shot:) But the biggest crime of the last 6 months was Leighton Meester's "Your Love's A Drug" No not the Ke$ha song with a similar title. That song should have been released but wasn't.

....and who could forget Las Ketchup "The Ketchup Song".

Seriously, I kinda miss the days of "comeback" songs from previous decades. I can't think of any since "The Grease Megamix" in '96 or Trio "Da Da Da" which was a minor hit in '97 and even more obscure when it was originally released in the 80s. Maybe there is one or two in the late 90s that I am forgeting, but it seems that era is long gone.

The closest thing to today is the discovery of Sublime "Santeria" at some major market CHRs, even today. KIIS plays it as a regular gold, some weeks even making it one of the top 50 most played songs. KIIS didn't touch that record when it came out in '97.

Second that. I wanted to play that song so bad! I was never serviced it.

Ok obviously I'm not really in the studio and I was just trying to slickly make a point...
But any of you that have rhythmic "Party Station" (or Hits & Hip Hop, which I kind of consider as a party station in disguise), may have noticed the re-increase in Ghosttown Dj's "my boo" play, especially in mix shows. Even rhythmic top 40 stations are doing it as well. Whoever was responsible for putting that record together really did well because it's still pretty relevant today in sound, lyrics,..etc.

I also think Blaque's "808 remix" is a bit relevant today as well, in many ways.
