Did solo nostalgia trip to town this past week...and it usually involves checking out former sites of stations. Obviously not a family summer vacation game plan!! You guys probably already know all this stuff already....but just in case it adds to your knowledge base.....here's a brief "dump":
KMSC (original 102.1) ... Nassau Bay office center is bascially near abandoned. The office portion (where station was) is completely abandoned, but accessible. I'm not sure, but think I may have found where original hallway was and still has window cutouts to look into those rooms that were control rooms. Then again, could just be old offices with windows. Creepy to walk around the building, though.
KLYX (secondary 102.1) ... visited both Clear Lake office building (now 100% occupied by Cimmaron Software) and the 2929 Southwest Freeway locations. The SW Freeway one (Greenwood Suites) looks like if you sneezed hard, the whole place would collapse. KLYX office/studios converted back to hotel rooms that I suspect are mostly rended to cochroaches.
KILT .. building still there, of course, but was intrigued to note the neighboring KLOL building I think gone and replaced with a condo. KPFT across the street looks like change blows by the front door like some hurricane wind but never goes inside!
KNUZ .. hopefully I went to correct place, and it's now a questionable apt. building (4701 Caroline is what I was checking).
KULF ... building boarded up for years (I checked it in 2005 as well). There were some workers in parking garage staging some demolition work...thought about bribing them to take me up to penthouse, but decided probably not a great idea! Would have been a FUN trip, though...
KIKK ... did Pasadena drive-by of second location (Southmore). Hard to pinpoint exactly because my memory is hazy; but looks like office building still there. There are some towers nearby and I was trying to identify those.
I find it ironic that all these "fun" "boutique" kind of stations have all been comfortably parked in a couple of corporate high-rises for many years. Fits the metaphor. Didn't get time to see if KRBE still out on Westheimer. Would have also enjoyed getting some time to check out KYOK history, but didn't.
On the Seattle thread, I posed a question that I will repeat here: Are there tools for being able to reverse lookup a tower owner? I know you can get site map for a station from FCC site; but I'm wondering how you would say "the tower on Red Bluff belongs to ____". Anyone know a good method?
