WOR Radio 710 HD Announces
RADIO TOWERS TO FALL
PART OF 5-YEAR RELOCATION PROJECT
Wednesday, September 20th at 10:00am
(New York, New York – September 14, 2006) WOR Radio 710 HD announced today their three 700-foot tall radio towers, which have been a fixture on the New Jersey Turnpike in Lyndhurst for over 40 years, will come crashing down (safely) in a ceremony to be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2006, at 10:00am. These are WOR’s 4th set of towers, on which construction began in 1965 and was completed in 1967.
WOR’s vice president and corporate director of engineering, Tom Ray, explained the event, stating, “The decommissioning of our Lyndhurst transmitter facility is the culmination of a 5-year project to relocate the WOR transmitter facility due to the EnCap Golf redevelopment of that area. While these towers and the Lyndhurst site have served us well, the construction of our new site caps off two years of construction where WOR was rebuilt from the tips of the microphones to the tops of the towers. From top to bottom, WOR now has possibly the most technologically advanced broadcast facility in the City, which is very good for our listeners.”
After years of planning, building and fine-tuning, WOR has switched over to our new towers, located half a mile north in Rutherford, NJ. The new towers are 658-feet tall and the first newly-built towers for a 50,000 watt New York City radio station in years. The brand-new, state-of-the-art facility was built from the ground up and is completely digital. It employs two identical main and backup transmitters.
The ceremony is closed to the public; however, listeners can tune-in to live coverage of the event on WOR Radio 710 HD. The station is also making arrangements for a live webcast on wor710.com, where recorded video footage will be available for download later that day.
