Old Transmitter Sites???

I was just doing some thinking...

I realized most of Beaufort County's old FM tx sites are now used for cell towers. The old Hilton Head tower for 107.9 and 106.9 holds pager equipment and an STL for Triad broadcasting

Made me wonder: are there any old FM transmitter sites that are 100% abandoned (minus lighting, of course)? I can only think of the 1200' tower on St. Helena Island that used to be the home of WHTK/Port Royal in the 90's before the move to Charleston.

Any others you can think of?

Is this the same tower that can be seen across St. Helena Sound from the tip of Edisto Beach? If so, I believe it is now used by something called "Fripp TV"... Through binoculars, it also appears to be holding cellular stuff (if we are in fact talking about the same tower)

It's on the very northern tip of St. Helena. Big tower...about 1200' in the air, so I'm sure it can be seen from Edisto probably better than any other tower there. I can see it about 5 miles south of Beaufort when I cross the Broad River. So it has a pretty good line of sight covering most of Beaufort Co.

The tower was as of last year still "owned" by Barnacle Broadcasting, the Beaufort owners of 99.7. They'd been cited for not firing up the flashing lights at night...big deal considering the proximity to the coast and MCAS Beaufort. That plus losing the FM about 7 years ago made me think that tower was as good as gone come the next hurricane or violent storm that rolls through

I'd be curious what "Fripp TV" is? Are we talking about a LPTV?
