Old Tucson Airchecks and News

FYI those of you that don't usually check out YouTube, I've posted some old airchecks of KIKX and KCUB, and the oldest of KFIF. You can go to YouTube and search by call letter. Also I've posted newscasts recorded from Tucson TV stations of the last day of KIKX. Hope you enjoy them.

On the KFIF 'check, it took 39+ minutes to find out who the jock was (Tom Lane).
And that was thanks to an artist drop by Don Grady. I don't think he ever said
who he was in the entire aircheck.

As to the skywave fade--where was this recorded? Somewhere away from Tucson?

Those are great airchecks! BTW, back in that era I heard KFIF in Cincinnati Ohio one evening via sunset skip. Also recall hearing KALF-1510 Mesa and, my favorite, "Country Kind" KYND-1580 Tempe which was a frequent DX catch. After KYND's sign off I would sometimes hear "Million Dollar" KDAY 1580 Santa Monica until their sign off.

I will be adding some KTKT airchecks, but as most of you may know, they are already available on Reelradio.com. As far as the question on where I recorded KFIF, beleive it or not near 22nd ST and Craycroft, where I lived at the time. Can't give an answer to the skywave interference except those of you around back then will remember the darker it got, the worse it got. I think I recorded it during the 5pm hour and sunset locally was around 5:20p or so. I'll also be adding some old KHOS and KMOP airchecks. Sorry, but I never recorded KAIR. You have to remember I was around 16 years old, and if I didn't like the station, I just didn't record it. Somewhere I also have an aircheck of KOLD 1450 (not sure if I got the calls right) Also an aircheck of KCEE FM at 96.1.
I'll be adding them to YouTube along with TV news segments of radio stories. Already added KIKX sign-off and interview with Jim Scopac about dumping the Tucson Toros. Again you can go on YouTube and search by call or even by "bobjlv"
Glad you enjoyed them.

Just wanted to note. As I mentioned on my last post, I had donated some airchecks to reelradio.com. In all fairness to "Uncle Ricky", I would never post any of those on YouTube. It wouldn't be fair to Ricky who has worked hard to have such an outstanding website. As far as I'm concerned he gets the exclusive. If you haven't been to reelradio.com and you are a current or former air talent, you have no clue what you are missing. He appreciates airchecks from the good old days and only requires a small donation for complete access to his site if you haven't made any donations. Anyway, there are a lot of Tucson airchecks available at that website.
