I was looking through some old R&R Magazine issues, and I found one from 11/30/90, and it features a very nice article about WWLI being #1, competition with WSNE (which seemed to rarely appear in R&R magazine), and even a sample hour. Looking at the sample hour, it actually sounded very similar to how it did in 1997 when I first started listening regularly, and similar to how Easy 99.1 sounds now. This article brings back a lot of memories of the station, and when I was younger. It even mentioned Gary DeGraide, and it got me thinking about how the station actually sounds very feminine now. And a lot of people don't realize this, but I'm pretty sure WSNE was the first Providence station to play all Christmas music. I think there were a few years when WSNE played all Christmas music, and WWLI didn't. Anyway, here's a link to the magazine. The article is on Page 47.
