Oldies 102.9 HD-2

I don't know the source of their music but somehow I doubt it's old analog disks inherited from a late sister station that died several years ago. The same companies that provide 24/7 music formats to stations also make available music-only versions for subscribers to use/program themselves. No muss. No fuss. Less work for mother.

Except that they retained much, if not all, of the music on hard drive....

I like what I heard from that mp3 segment. Anyone know if I could get this signal in Bethlehem (roughly 40 miles away, grade B signal) I'm thinking of picking up an HD radio there are NO oldies stations around here. Yes, this would KILL wogl, but the "demographics" would scare any owner from putting it on an FM signal.

If you have an external antenna and h can hook at that into your radio of choice, you can use a roater to turn it to get a signal.
I'm in Bensalem and get WZZO's HD signal with that setup, as well as WSTW's hD signal. even WKVP comes in HD>
now if i use the internal antenna whe when the radio is in a different location i'm not gona get WZZO or WKVP in analog let alone digital on the HD tuner.
WSTW and WKVP might come in mono o in anolog.
all of these signals i'm talking about is while using the insignia narator.

From what I heard your new 102.9 is really nothing new. The approach if you add some ads to it and an occasional DJ is nothing original. There is a station in Jackson, MS that follows the same type of oldies station. This format is nothing special.

There are things uniquely Philadelphia in the 50-60's and 70's that make a Oldies station on the Delaware Valley special. That is why I stream Cruising 92.1 is for the heritage of people who specialize in playing doo wop and other things that are unique to Philadelphia. WOGL once had this. But most everyone on WOGL who knew anything about the old days have passed on. I used to live in Havertown in the late 60's and 70's so I do remember my HS days.

Why should people have to buy an outdoor antenna just for HD radio reception? Granted, I have an outdoor antenna, but I'm a DXer.

they shouldn't have to have an external antenna, nick.
i'm close enough to the city that the external antenna isn't needed for the most part for local FM's.
however, i'm just saying that it can be done with an external antenna him gettin WMGKHD if he wanted too
the music sullection of WMGKHD2 isn't anything to write home about, however its not like real oldies is available for this markit. WVLT is a rimshot FM, and clearer car reception isn't possible. so its one of those that it is better then nothing at all.

i liked the older generation of jocks on Oldies 98 also. WVLT is awesome!
I can get WVLT here also.

Adult standards WPEN started with an amazing cast of expert personalities of their era in 1978, one by one they retired or passed away, replaced by 2nd generation personalities. Same now with WOGL, some like Hy Lit are gone, others like Don Cannon retired. Some very good 2nd generation 'oldies' jocks like Harvey Holiday & Bob Charger & Ron Cade have been around the area & many stations since the early '70's & know the music well, but the tight 'classic hits' format restricts pulling out the oldies they really know - a reality of radio as a business. WVLT plays a good oldies selection during the day but limited by all the brokered programming & poor signal in the Pa. suburbs. I could do without the 10 minute crossover chatter between morning jock shifts but that's my opinion. I also like they do have the Associated Press radio newscasts all day, most music stations drop news after AM drive. Too bad they can't make enough money to run regular music programming evenings & weekends - the amateur pay to play talk hosts drag the station down.

The Philadelphia based internet-only oldies stations are a haven for 24 hour oldies fixes - Hy Lit Radio, Philly Gold Radio (with the chopped up WPGR jingles) & Sounds of Philadelphia radio fill the void of on-air radio.

Fusionoldies.com is also Philadelphia based but doesn't have any jocks or jinlges.

Got in the car this afternoon and no 102.9 HD2.

It was nice while it lasted.

The HD transmitter seems to be off tonight. However, no one is missing the new oldies format.

No one? I am. Apparently other people who commented will be. You won't. I get it. Where do you get off saying "no one?"
