Oldies 103.3: Christmas Music "Coming Soon"

1pm Saturday afternoon and I just heard for the first time (although this isn't necessarily the first time the station played it, it's just the first time I heard it) a promo mentioning that Christmas music is "coming soon".

Their website has had a Christmas music link for a couple of weeks now.

Last year, they flipped on Veteran's Day morning followed quickly by WROR about an hour later or so.

It's beginning to sound alot like.....people changing stations for 6 weeks. :-\

Oh, please...... not that! Six weeks of Christmas music on 103.3 make for a preset lost. I'd better get my index finger ready for the inevitable. :(

Just heard it again moments ago just after 5pm. "Stay tuned."

Anybody wanna bet on this coming Monday morning (the 3rd) ?? Maybe for some people, hearing Christmas music for the next 6 or 7 weeks might make them forget about their newly elected president. :D

Great, push away your audience so you can get better ratings for less than 2 months. It's not like they have better options like MP3 players these days.

True but it makes money for them--for every person who takes ODS off their presets for the next couple months (like me), there's one--or two--who will gladly stay tuned. Many will be businesses that will pipe in the station to get people in the mood. Chri$tma$ has two s's in it and they're both dollar signs.

It's all about the money. I just got the most recent Family Guy box set and there was a Q&A period at the Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Fest on there; Seth MacFarlane was asked since Rupert Murdoch and Fox
are right-wing, how do they feel about all the left wing humor on there? MacFarlane said, well, Fox News Channel and the Fox Entertainment (the main broadcast network) "might as well be two separate companies" and he said Rupert was "a businessman first and a Republican second". In other words, as long as Peter Griffin and friends were making Rupert money, he didn't mind the politics. Same with WODS.
Big bucks big bucks big bucks no whammies stop! (Remember Press Your Luck?)
As long as there's money in it, have a Holly Jolly Veteran's Day!

I must be weird or something.....with the exception of January-with it being the "Christmas Comedown"- I could listen to Whitney asking me if hear what she hears and everything else all year

Another announcement. They're getting *more* frequent. Like the undeniably seasonal smell of a holiday yule log starting to burn, I can smell these songs just around the corner...like days from now...could it be...??

My wife told me she's so sick of politics and the economy, that she's kind of jonzing for the songs to start up this year....

So when they go 24/7 Xmas songs, does Tom Kent do same in the eves as I know he's syndicated.

I know last year it was a big deal,Mr and Mrs Santa came in to see Dale & co in the morning-he'd already done a few regular Oldies tunes and the Clauses brought the tunes, suddenly it was Christmas- and it wound up on the news later.

That's a good point because, at some point, they will drop Lost 45s and the Sat Night 70s Show for a few weeks (and maybe even Sunday morning's Elvis and Beatles shows). Barry Scott usually has 1 or 2 Christmas-themed Lost 45s shows each year beforehand though. Next week is his interview with Brian Wilson so he's got at least one more week to go.

The weekend guy who I still cannot remember the name to yet but is good said today to a caller "yes, Christmas is coming soon, I do not know when."

Today? Mike O'Reilly was on today from noon to 3 and Patrick Callahan was on from 3 to 7.

It must have been Mike O'Reilly, it was who was on right after Casey Kasem. Patrick Callahan is a class act too!

I'm happy to report that "soon" was not this morning. They did play the song 'I'm Crying' (not sure if that's the actual name of the song) at the start of the 6am hour. Thought that would be a good way to start Christmas music after that one because of what alot of people would be doing if they had to listen to Christmas music for 6 or 7 weeks ;D but, there is a Santa Claus, normal format continues for now, Thank God.

Same with WROR. No flipping this morning.

They probobly both have it all ready.

the second one switched the other will.

Imagine ROR playing ONE Christmas song which gives ODS the cue to switch to ALL Christmas and then ROR saying it's not coming till Nov 28th (which is IMO the EARLIEST they should even consider it)

If it were up to me mix a tune or two an hour in but no all Christmas till Dec 24th at 3pm!

It's seems to be a running joke with the Oldies staff now. SOmeone called Paual STreet and BEGGED to know when was the Xmas music starting. And almost every one on the shifts is saying with a smile "No, it's not yet...it's soon...it's not tommorrow ,trust me".

Patrick Callahan said something also like "No...it's soon..not that soon".

They must be getting alot of calls and emails for it. I have to admit...it's cheery for the first few days. And man do we need that now, a little cheer.

My guess is that the Christmas music will start next Monday, but if they really wanted to start early, they could start it as soon as Friday. Don't forget that on the ten o'clock Beatles every night, Mike Finegan has been going through all of the Beatles' UK albums this past month, the only two left are Abbey Road and Let it Be. I bet it'll happen after that. However, I also heard Patrick Callahan say at the end of the countdown last Saturday to join us next week for a new year on the countdown on Saturday, so it may not be on Friday or this weekend either. Also, Barry Scott's interview with Brian Wilson is on Sunday on the lsot 45s, so I doubt they'd go to Xmas music before that, but they've been dropping a lot of hints since Saturday about the Xmas music and everyone on air has been saying it's coming soon ...Hmmmmm......

Does anyone think that it may start tomorrow? Perhaps to celebrate the end of the elections and the new president of the US? Hopefully it does!!!

Firstly,I love the classic Christmas songs..There are maybe 50 of them from Crosby to Como to Cole. The 70's superstars like Elton or McCartney,Springsteen,(even)Cheech & Chong all had 1 neo-Classic XMas song.Even the Pretenders, Waitresses and BandAid in the 80's all had a classic Christmas record that sounds great each December. But to play Xmas songs from big current stars that are mere remakes of the real classics is atrocious and dilutes the title of 'Christmas(or spineless PR term 'Holiday') Classic'.And to start these lousy Xmas remakes 2 or 3 wks before Thanksgiving as Oldies does is totally unbearable for me.Last year it started November 10th.I remember distinctly.......I don't even want to know when they began this farce this year.I try not to listen to 103.3FM this time of year to spite them on how ridiculous they have become. For real Christmas Classics ,I'll wait 'til 2 weeks before Christmas and find a station that plays the real great ones.
