Oldies 103.3: Dale and June

Can any one speculate what they may have in mind for June? With a Traffic gal, and Karen, that would make three women. It would be like Lobel would have his own, "Bobby's Angels" June can stand on her own. She is a real pro with a great voice and a quick wit !!!!

June, I think, did pretty much the same with Dale as she had with Paul Perry. She read the news and offered a little extra chitchat with whomever the host happened to be. Mauzy Stafford occasionally did too but pretty much just did traffic. The new (or current) traffic reporter doesn't add much other than traffic from what little I've heard of her.

With two co-hosts, that doesn't leave much room for extra witty banter from June. Karen may bring her into the conversation occasionally. I like June. I just think her news role is exactly that.

From what I've read (including in the Herald), Karen is hosting and Lobel is the GUEST co-host and he will be in for the fall season. Nothing beyond that as of this point. Seems to me they are auditioning him for an extended period of time for some other show on some other station. Karen certainly doesn't need the help. She's hosted her own shows (morning and otherwise) for many years.

Patrick Callahan is back on Oldies again this afternoon.

Anyone think he may be taking Karen's afternoon slot?? ::)

I'm sure it's probably you, JJ, but I just thought I'd put the thought out there. And generate more discussion. On a topic I started. ;D ;) ;D

OR........

It COULD be Chris Zito of WXLO's Zito and Jen because, in case anyone missed the "Where's Zito" thread, Chris Zito has completely disappeared from http://www.wxlo.com

Oh my! 8)

I expect full reports on whatever happens as the week goes on. I will be on vacation most of the week on the Cape and I don't expect to be up before 9am ;D and I'm not exactly sure anyway if and, if so, how well WODS comes in down there.

As The Rotating Jocks Turn:

Patrick Callahan has been removed from WROR's weekend schedule

http://wror.com/wror_programs.shtml

and replaced with Dominick Indondoli who is the same guy who used to sub for Hank Morse on traffic in the morning (maybe still does) and also was nights on WBOS before the flip I think. Dominick will be on WROR 3-7 Sat afternoons and 1-5 Sunday afternoons. Kevin Redding's name has, in turn, been removed from WROR's weekend schedule.

No sign of a Patrick bio anywhere on WODS's jock page yet but since he was back this past weekend, I'd say it's a lock.

So with the addition of Uncle Dale and Patrick (and the subtraction of Harry Nelson), it's a crowded weekend schedule for those two and the other weekend warriors (Judy Pancoast; Mike O'Reilly; Scott Roberts, who I haven't heard lately; Neil White (who I have heard but isn't listed); and Mauzy Stafford; plus, Mighty Mike and his 70s show and Barry Scott and The Lost 45s.

No matter what is going on on Wall St, in Washington or in Presidential debates. Life is normal again-

Dale is back. At least for a few hours on Saturdays.

He's "Uncle Dale" ala the way he sounded 30 years anyway. He's more relaxed and funny, talking into the song opening as he used to, etc. He said "Hi. It's me Dale! And you thought I was dead?" or something like that.

I think this is a better slot for him. He just sorta touched on his absence. He said " First off I'm here on a Saturday and I've never been here on a Saturday. I don't even think I've turned the radio ON on a Saturday. To everyone who asked..I'm fine..I'm getting better...I'm strong enough to be here and I'm havin' fun and that's what's important." He also thanked everyone who sent him letters and read off a few names. He think he was sorely missed.

The first thing that stuck me was Dale just being what he does best- being really funny and relaxed. It was nice to hear. A bit of good news these days, is always welcome. Thanks Dale for being a constant good thing.

I've had him on for the last half hour or so. He's pretty funny this morning. His lack of 'funny' is why I stopped listening to his morning show. Unfortunately, the new morning show is nothing to write home about either.

I briefly heard Oldies this morning before Dale (one of those things where I woke up for a couple minutes, heard it, fell back asleep) and I think I heard Jessica. It definitely wasn't Patrick Callahan and I'm pretty sure there was no Top 20 Countdown.

And I'm pretty sure the Top 20 Countdown is no more unless JJ is doing it during afternoon drive or unless Finegan is doing it later at night. The website still has JJ doing it from 7pm to 9pm which is obviously wrong now.

Update: See the post entitled "Top 20 Countdown" with news from JJ himself.

nope, it's 9am to noon. I'm pretty sure I just heard him say goodbye for the day. He did a good job and he really did sound happy to be there.

Neil White is on now.

So, for those of you scoring at home....Congratulations! <rimshot>

But, seriously folks, if I may be serious for a moment, the Saturday 9/27 Rotating Wheel Of Jocks has gone/is going like this:

? to 9am Jessica (I think)
9am to noon Uncle Dale
noon to 3 Neil White
3pm to 7pm Mike O'Reilly
7pm to 11pm Mighty Mike with the Sat 70s show
11pm to 2am Casey Kasem AT 40
overnight probably no one

My guess is that Sunday morning/early afternoon will bring some combo of Patrick Callahan/Judy Pancoast/maybe even Jessica and I'm hoping Mauzy Stafford returns to her normal Sun afternoon 3-7 shift leading into Lost 45s.

That's if you are scoring at home. If you aren't, then why are you reading this? ;D

JJ Wright said elsewhere(OLdies Countdown thread) that Patrick Callahan returns next weekend at 7am live to do it for the two hour slot. Then, Dale is 9-12. Oldies has just upped the caliber of Saturday mornings.

For me, it was like bit of deja vu to 1976 on the old WRKO-it really was. Oldies even uses on occcasion, the old music stinger from The Big 68, with of course their own call letters supplanted.

I think Dale works better alone judging by today. GRanted he's been on the air here for 40 years( and TV-not just 56 v/o stuff, I remember him hosting the old "RKO ROK" that aired on channel 7 on Saturdays around 1:30pm, mid-70's,sort of like a Boston answer to American Bandstand) so a legend is entitled to be a little more reserved, especially since he is recovering from something medical. But he was in great spirits and, as agreed, pretty funny. He signed off promising he WOULD be back next week "Unless you know something I don't?" Dale got to play some "TV Tunes"(weekend theme) which also added to the nostalgia of his Channel 56 days. If he'd played the old "Speed Racer" theme I think I would have imploded with delight.

Whatever, it was good to hear him back.

Dale playing the Banana Splits theme would have been perfect. Unless he did. I only heard most of the 3 hour show.

I somehow missed Dale on Saturday morning, however I did tune in during the 7 to 9AM hour and an there was no countdown at all.

I always thought Dale sounded his best when he was doing a tight, music-intensive format. His style really shines when he has to make his point over a :14 intro, and he's good at it...between his sense of timing, quick wit & word economy (no doubt learned early in his career doing Drake radio) is what CHR & oldies radio is all about. A "morning zoo" type show just doesn't work for him...didn't work in the mid-70s on WRKO, didn't work at Oldies either.

Listened a bit on Sunday to Oldies 103.3fm. The lineup was the following:
8a.m the usual Elvis Only show.
9a.m The Beatles Brunch
10-3p.m. Judy Pancoast (she did a great job doing Sunday middays, played lots of music and talked just a bit).
3-7p.m: Mike O'Reilly
7-11 Lost 45s

No sign of Mauzy so I believe she is done with Oldies 103.3fm. No idea if she will be on weekends anytime soon.
