Oldies 103.3 Starting To Delve More Into 80's Music

Heard earlier tonight:

All Night Long-Lionel Ritchie
I'm So Excited-Pointer Sisters
Fame-Irene Cara

I also noticed that they played More Than A Feeling the other day by Boston too. Looks like they are tweaking the playlist a bit.

But that is different though, they never played the songs that I mentioned above before, well except maybe Fame.

98.1 WOGL has been playing these songs for at least four months and many more artists from the 80's- Billy Ocean, Michael Jackson, Prince, Aretha, Tina Turner, etc.

That's from 1976. I've heard them play it occasionally for at least a year now.

You know you're getting old when you will soon hear, "Coming up New Kids on the Block on Oldies 103.3." ;D
Maybe they can sponsor the reunion tour ::)

Since we have 2 oldies stations in town ,I would like to see one play 70's tunes, the other 80's tunes.
I don't like much pop from the 70's and I assume there are many who are turned off by 80's music.
It would be nice if a station decided to define itself instead of being afraid of scaring some away and trying to be all things to all people.
There was a thread about the AT 40 from the 70's on here a while back and some of the music that charted,I listen to the AT 80's version on XM every sunday and it is pretty decent.
I feel trying to cover both decades on one station is very hard and much good music will be left out.

Yes, but 80's music for a certain demographic.

WYBC in New Haven, which is often the # 1 station in that market, also has an 80's heavy playlist, but I assure you the bland music you hear on 103.3 pales in comparison to the R&B (real R&B) you'll hear on WYBC.

That's Boston for you!

Yes, I know, but I still thought that it was an unusual song for them to play though.

I wish that WROR would better define themselves. The 80's that they play do not seem to fall insync with the rest of the format. The 80's songs that Oldies played on the other hand, fit in well!

Wouldn't be surprised if Oldies eventually drops 60's music within a few years. I would also like to hear more "good/lost" 70's music as well.

Interesting! All three of these were in heavy rotation on 103.3 when it was WHTT!

The actual decades don't always fit in with the style of music. Some feel that Fifties music should be
stuff from '54 to about '63 (birth of the Beatles), 60s from '64 to early 70s, and 70s from early 70s
through early 80s. One of the XM decades channels, the 50s one, came out and said that they
consider 50s music to be from about '54 to '63 or so

But you have to wonder if 'ODS would add something like, say "Don't You Want Me" (Human League)
or stuff by the Eurthythmics, for example.

by the way I heard Mike 93.7 play what I guess is the full version of Rapper's Delight which had stuff
about how Superman was a sissy and it mentions some mild sexual stuff. To be honest I had
never heard the full version, only the radio single

>> he may be able to fly all through the night
but can he rock a party til the early light?
he cant satisfy you with his little worm
but i can bust you out with my super sperm

WROR seems to also have one '90s song in rotation. I've heard "All I Want To Do" by Sheryl Crow played regularly, but I haven't noticed any other '90s songs yet.

It would be a natural progression, albeit boring.

I have heard them play the full version before. I've heard it on other stations in the past as well.

I have a little news for you: that's the version played in every other market.
