Oldies 103.3 Summer Concert Series promotion

This is the most extensive campaign I've heard yet from 103.3 - they are playing more of the music of the artists performing this year and announcing the shows non stop. En route to THE SENTINEL movie I heard Felix Cavaliere (12:30 AM) and getting out of the theater at 2:30 AM it was "Rock Me" by Steppenwolf.More than coincidental that two acts playing the Esplanade were on the air as I got out of the car and got back into the car two hours later. The promo for the event is non-stop. it's an OK line-up this year - Three Dog Night, Rick Derringer, Temptations, Kool & The Gang, Steppenwolf, Cavaliere's Rascals.

Anyone know if Derringer has gone back to playing the hits or if he is still doing his 'Jazz for Christ' thing?

At least they had a reason to dig "Rock Me" out of obscurity. That's a great tune that I've only heard on commercial radio not even a handful of times since it was a #10 national hit in 1969. I get sick of their two overplayed hits "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride".

To Answer Lucy first - Derringer played up at The Palace in Manchester New Hampshire 2 years back.He did a very tired run-through of the obligatory "Hang On Sloopy", "Fever" and "Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo" (which was launched on RKO first!, though Rick did it with the Edgar Winter Group before his solo disc). Was thinking "This guy would be more fun if he played jazz". He came out for the encore and played...jazz.Turns out he has a jazz album out.As for Steppenwolf - why doesn't someone get the different version of Magic Carpet Ride from that Star Trek Next Generation movie (maybe it's not a full version, don't have the soundtrack). Yes, it was nice to hear Rock Me. Also interesting to note that this morning at 12:30 AM it was "Lonely Too Long" by the Rascals, this afternoon at 2 PM it was "Lonely Too Long" by the Rascals, with "Born To Be Wild" played a little earlier. Heard this stuff after leaving Racon Radio's show at WMWM - sounded good, Bob!

(Previous).."The promo for the event is non-stop. it's an OK line-up this year - Three Dog Night, Rick Derringer, Temptations, Kool & The Gang, Steppenwolf, Cavaliere's Rascals."Regarding these acts, Three Dog Night might surprise you the most. Assuming it's theDanny Hutton/Corey Wells version I saw last summer, they proved to be quite entertaining. Harmonies were very reminiscent of their records, the backup band, including one long time original member, was very tight and Danny and Corey put on anice stage presentation, even if it was a bit "scripted." The interlude in the middle of Mama Told Me Not to Come where they break into a rapping update of the song, was one of the highlights of the show. I hope they are equally as entertaining again this year.

I don't know. I haven't caught the movie or the soundtrack yet.
