So I ignored the Storrow Drive closed signs and ended up in traffic for 59 minutes exactly en route to the Oldies 103 4 Seasons Concert.
Got to hear Jay Diamond on RKO, Laura Flanders on AM 1430 and on WBZ The Pat Desmarais Show
Spent most of my listening time with Laura Flanders - She got into the
Downing Street Minutes - and added brio absent on the airwaves these days.
Diamond was best on topics like Jessica Lynch, Pat Tillman, and some great stuff on Recruiters badgering high school students about to graduate; Desmaris discussed the Enrico Caruso/Stoneham case - it was very local.
============================================================================
Four Seasons show was packed. JJ Wright closed the show out - it was a better performance than last year though Frankie Valli should drop the anti-gay jokes.
Patriotism, The Sopranos, and a slap on gay pride day. The joke came immediately before one of his final songs, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", which was co-written by a major gay producer (The band's producer co-wrote it with one of the Seasons, Bob Gaudio, though it was not a Four Seasons song per se). No doubt the writer had a guy in mind when he wrote the tune (my guess is that it was written about Mitch Ryder, also in the label's "stable" at the time)- maybe that's what ticked Frankie off all these years later. Jason Martinez, one of the new Four Seasons, was asking for all the ladies to applaud because "of a parade today" (Gay Pride Parade).
Leaving the concert at 9:55 Jay Diamond was still on - tried to call in to mention the "Downing Street Memo" but they didn't pick up - he was doing a
comedy monologue on John (not Michael) Bolton. He averages about 1 phone call an hour - so phone calls don't seem to be part of it.
The show works better when Jay is serious. Come to think of it, Frankie Valli
works better when he shuts up and sings...
AM 1430 signal did not come in good in Boston at night tonight.<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by millennium on 06/12/05 02:58 AM.</FONT></P>
