Oldies 103 A to z

Been catching bits and pieces of WODS' holiday celebration of "songs in our library, A to Z". Not bad
esp since you hear something different once in awhile. At one point I heard a top 40 hit called
"Yellow River" (and no, it wasn't by I.P. Daily!--a joke when we were kids--, it was by Christie)
http://www.yellowriver.0catch.com/vietnam.html

Today I heard them play Otis Redding's Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, and they followed it by
another song beginning with D...Huh? But of course: the title is technically (Sittin' On The) Dock Of The Bay

Interesting concept for the station. I wonder if they are doing this to test new music on the station?

possible...
they played Donna Summer's version of Macarthur Park tonight (thought they'd segue it with
the Richard Harris orig but they didn't; the orig. has been heard on Thu Night countdown though)

Yup, they COULD be. And it's during a holiday week while Uncle Dale and the morning crew are on vaca except for Mauzi Stafford who is doing the news. It COULD be a conspiracy...but I think not.

Or....IS it?? ;D

I wonder why they didn't play the Richard Harris version? They did play 2 versions of Twist and Shout by the Beatles and by someone else. They also played Meat Loaf earlier, which is unusual for Oldies too.

Is it really necessary to analyze how many versions of the same song ANY radio station plays? Why can't we be pleasantly surprised? ???

Why is it so difficult for radio broadcasters, listeners and enthusiasts to JUST ENJOY THE PROGRAMMING?!

Perhaps the reason so many music stations are failing right now is because there has been too much time spent figuring out the format?

I doubt I'm the only one here who remembers the classic Allan Sherman comment:

A CAMEL IS A HORSE THAT WAS DESIGNED BY A COMMITTEE!

Angrytunes, the station is supposively playing everything in the stations library. If they are not playing everything then something is suspect.

retro...

The name is ARGYtunes.

And the only people who are 'suspect' are great pretenders like yourself who are more interested in finding radio flaws than experiencing an occasional breath of fresh air when it comes to an established format!

I tend to agree... they're up to something, both by what they DO play and what they don't. They skipped over "Do You Know The Way To San Jose" by Dionne Warwick ... but they played "We've Only Just Begun" ... when is the last time ANY format played the carpenters? They played the Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", which is really more of a "classic rock" tune... also they played "What You See Is What You Get" by the Dramatics... good song, but when is the last time they played it?

Maybe they'll start playing more than the same 103 songs ...ooh, was that a cheap shot? ;)

The A to Z thing is over and done with unless they start back up overnight. I heard Judy Pancoast mention earlier in the evening that she had reached the final song in their library although I dont recall what that song was.

And Mighty Mike is now on with his 70s show.

most of those songs get played on XM in regular rotation on several channels.

ya, but listening here in the westside...you couldn't tell what the PD is thinking...or is he?

Now you are kidding, right? I like what WODS did, however if they are skipping tunes then that is a problem.

Retro...

I didn't visit their website to see just what tunes were on the list.

But perhaps you'd like to point out the titles that you felt were missing to the rest of the group?

Just a side note to ED101...I listened to the Carpenters 4CD Music Retrospective [FROM THE TOP] this past weekend. And enjoyed it. So many people like to tear down the Richard Carpenter arrangements and Karen's vocal styles...but they both hold up pretty well. ;D

I think that Karen Carpenter has a beautiful voice!

I was basing my comments on Oldies on what others said saying that they missed a couple of songs. I did not notice it first hand at all. :-\
