Oldies 103 vs B101

Are these two stations even in the same league anymore?I just looked at Oldies 103's website and danced around a bit to see what was played in the last 24 hour's. Here's what I found.

Absoulutly no 80's music a late 60's early 70's core.

B101 a heavy mid to late 70's to early 80's classic rock hit's core more of what you here on WROR.

I heard the 1997 version of "Landslide" on the Bee the other day.Not sure it should be played on the Bee but then again B101 is playing "Big Hit's" so that leaves the door open if they want to play "Only want to be with you" by Hootie and the Blowfish.

Just an obsevation..............

B101 is in an identity crisis. I can see them playing the original 1975 version of "Landslide", but not the 1997 one. Unless whoever was programming the computer accidentally put the live version on, since they probably play that one on Coast 93.3. I personally think that B101 would be better if they played more of the niche that is heard on Oldies 103.3 and keep the rock songs for the HJY crowd. Clear Channel always seems to have a knack to program against its competitors though, and having B101 playing a more rock hits fare rather than oldies, with HJY keeping its classic/new rock mix may be preventing Citadel from making 99.7 a classic rock or classic hits station. Plus, B101 has that ISDN'ed guy doing middays, and that's just wrong. Providence is market #36, let's get some live and local jocks, please!

A lot of the classic rock B101 is playing isn't on HJY anymore. I understand why the 50s left B101 long ago but am still wondering when some station somewhere still decide the 60s never should have left radio & there'll be a renewed trend in adding them again. Oldies 103 still does play quite a bit of 60s music while what's left on B101 is the Beatles & Beach Boys hits. There's a lot of 60s music that is never going to make its way to softer stations like WPLM. I had a chance to hear WKNL in nearby Connecticut last week & it was interesting hearing Frankie Avalon's Venus in the same half hour as The Eagles' Take It Easy.

And I agree on B101 middays. Ed is obviously good at what he does but it just goes against my grain, sounds phony,& 90% of what he talks about is the music & the artists. The only localisms are talk of emails he received & businesses listening. That's just a cloak.
