Oldies 107.9 FM

If 107.9 goes country, then if no 1 does oldies maybe WXLW 950 should try it since they have no ratings and see if they can get someone's FM translator.

what is WXLW and WFDM's relationship now that WXLW was sold.

I wonder that myself.

If WXLW could get a FM translator downtown Indpls, or at the 100.9 tower location. They could have an impact doing oldies.

According to Wikipedia it says Pilgrim Communications owns both WXLW and WFDM. Shame 95.9 is a very very poor rimshot now since 96.3 was shoehorned in back in the early 90's all but prevents any form of move for 95.9 to the north but that was also prevented by WFMS. and when the Wabash 95.9 was added in the 90's as welll shut Franklin into its whole where it is stuck

A while back I looked at this a little, I thought about changing WSHW to 99.9, WTHI would have to change to 99.7 but Emmis owns WTHI, I figure only way they would do this is if they owned WSHW, and WSHW would have to move need more separation from WWKI.

If there is a way to change WSCH to 99.5, WAOL to 99.3, WZPL to 99.3, that way maybe WSHW could do oldies. That would also help WHKO in Cincinnati.

are there any translators coming on air anytime soon in Indy that would be attractive to be bought by any of the big companys so someone could say put Oldies on HD2 so they could put it on the translator since it seems the FCC allows that along with AM Daytime/weak Night power to have FM Translators

There is WSHW 107.5 Zionsville, 1 watt WQME 105.3 in Greenwood. There is Apps on the others not certain when any of those around Indy may come on.

WXLW, WNTS, or WSYW AM with a FM translator near downtown may have an impact.

Since Backyard sold WURK, would like to see Backyard buy WCBK, WCLS swap formats with WCBK, and simulcast WERK on 102.3 WCLS. This would let them cover more areas of Indiana. Backyard seems to have some stations in markets bigger than Muncie, like Jackson MS.

If Oldies where on WCBK then Indy would have a rimshot Oldies station.. Well,, only up to Downtown,, pretty week on the North end of 465.

They would need to buy WSYW AM, and buy the 107.5 translator from WSHW, they would have the northside but around downtown they would want another translator.

I would simulcast WERK 104.9 oldies on 96.7 in Alexandria, buy WCBK and simulcast WERK on 102.3, and WCBK would change to 97.7.

There would be 2 rim shots at Indpls, but I would still try to get advertising from Bloomington, Muncie, and areas between. Why just in case a powerful station decides to do oldies, so it would only affect me around Indy.

If I was Backyard I would do something else but I won't say.

When 95.9 did oldies in Franklin it could have helped if they would tried to target Columbus and Indpls.

Could be, but I think Oldies would do better since no one is doing it. We already have Hank and WFMS,, WCBK, WKKG ECT....

and WMDH and WWKI and... a crap ton of little pea shooter stations with country around cent. indiana

I agree Oldies would be better.

even tho im still hoping they get "ballsy" and suprise everyone with active rock ;D

Id like to see them go all dance or even rhythmic AC, but I doubt that happins,,, Oldies is really their biggest profitable option,, no one else is doing it.

My only hesitation regarding this scenario is that Entercom would be the third country station in this market. The link you provide is very insightful into Entercom's corporate programming mentality - but even there, they mention liking country mostly in markets where there was only one heritage country station, and their Wolf made the second choice, not the third.

Oldies on the AM isn't completely improbable - thought could be the demo is more comfortable tuning into AM for music they want than anything else they could do there except talk.

However, if you research Entercom you'll see a lot of FM Oldies stations in the fold. They like the format. Whats more, with the "performance tax" still a political football for the foreseeable future, I'm not sure many companies are very interested in launching new music stations on the AM dial - why would they set themselves up for the possibility of owing more music royalty money in the future for music on an AM that probably won't significantly change ratings, or revenue much over what they get with talk?

I'm sure it's meant to confuse us radio geeks and the good folks on Shadeland, but, when you type in www.1079thewolf.com you get the Christmas Station website.

If 107.9 does indeed go country it will be in retaliation for the good folks on Shadeland going CHR on 93.9 to try to take a piece of the ZPL ratings along with some from Radio Now. So Why not try to take some from the piece of the pie from WFMS and Hank FM. they could drag them down, instead of trying to find ad buys as an oldies Station

Entercom owns KEYN in Wichita and long time oldies powerhouse WOLX in Madison. Both have moved into Classic Hits territory and are not playing Elvis and Buddy Holly. Neither are 55 and older stations

Signal, you're giving me a headache! Who's going to pay to move all those chess pieces? The Kaspar family isn't ever selling WSHW, even when Vern passes. Where else is Russ going to work? I'm sure plenty of people have been to 1401-03 Barner St. in Frankfort, checkbooks in hand since 1996. It was the old ownership of what is now WZPL who funded what was then WILO-FM's move to near Russiaville and power increase.

gr8oldies

We don't have enough stations to do all the formats, when you have more than 1 classic rock station, country station, and religious stations. So the market needs more stations if your going to have 2 - 3 stations playing the same stuff over and over.

Maybe people that like those formats need to listen to that stuff when they get out of bed in the morning, forget about the TV, keep listening to this stuff until you head to bed, if you like the formats we have so much listen to it 7 days a week. Those markets you talk about below are smaller markets and they possible don't impress anyone.

I like Magic 102.7 in Miami, you can hear the good oldies on it online.
