Oldies 1360 Wnnj am Jockless?

What's going on with Oldies 1360? Voice tracking was one way to save money but how cheap can the management be? Now they are really saving money, they have decided to go Jockless! Its pretty funny WCBS-FM must have researched this decision and figured they would lose listeners so they put a Brand New Billboard up right across the street from the station. I guess thats why Clear Channel is referred to as Cheap Channel. What a waste of talent too without Tony Dee and Rick Davis.

Not a surprising move. The latest Sussex book shows them stagnating around a 1.2....and being soundly beaten by many "out of market" signals. Tony Dee was only supposed to fill in until Max Kinckle recovered from his accident...this may not be until September. WNNJ has been voicetracked in almost every daypart with the exception of AM drive & any local contests in PM Drive.

At Clear Channel all those guys multi-task...Tony D is the CE. Most of the other voice trackers do multiple stations/formats.` Even market leader WSUS voice tracks mid-days and carries syndicated "Delilah" at night.

Maybe Scott Shannon''s True Oldies might be a good fit for WNNJ.

I have been wondering what is going on with this station. I sometimes listen to the doo-wop diner from 12 nonn to 1 PM and I noticed this week that there were no jocks. I checked and it seems that there is no jock in morning drive either. And tonight (Saturday night) I noticed that they are even jockless now and they are not running Dick Bartley's syndicated show like they used to.

Could this be because the station feels that they are threatened by the comeback of WCBS-FM and thus they need to cut costs now? I wonder how much overlap there is is between WCBS-FM and WNNJ-AM. I live in New York City and I have never been able to get WNNJ-AM on any radio. But it is likely that there must be some overlap in some places in New Jersey and perhaps that is moving Clear Channel into cutting costs on WNNJ-AM.

Or is it that Clear Channel is in the early stages of changes of changing the format of WNNJ-AM and that they are repeating what they did last year on WRLL-AM (Real Oldies 1690 from Chicago) when that station broadcasted jockless for the last month (prior to WVON taking over that ferquency)?

Stand by. Changes afoot. Not too different, not too drastic. But change.

Wild speculations aside... it still amazes me that with all the resources this world has, that you just wouldn't e-mail, or call and ask? Wouldn't you like to actually KNOW the answer, rather then keep guessing wrong?

See you in a few weeks! Football starts Friday the 7th.

Clear Channel Sussex did one smart thing.....hired Rob Moorehead to resurrect the BGB formerly of WDHA......smart move...talented guy....unbelievable that when he decided to go on the air again, he didn't bring the show back to its original home....he was great there for many years.....
