"Oldies 1360" WNNJ-AM

As an avid fan of "oldies" music which seems to be a "taboo phrase" in today's radio world, it's great to see a station still playing a variety of tunes from the 50's through the 70's. On top of that there are even personalities...IMAGINE THAT...REAL PEOPLE AND OLDIES!! After CBS-FM's deaprture I was forced to find a new place for my music and I happened to stumble across WMTR. It was nice at first, but the SAME BURNT OUT TUNES OVER AND OVER AGAIN! To me, THAT is a turn-OFF!

The one day I happened to stumble across "Oldies 1360" up in Sussex. I even heard one of the jocks from WMTR, Tony Dee who has apparently been doing the morning show for Max Kinkel who was in a car accident. Tony seems to be a "genuine DJ" who has sincere passion for the music and the listeners. Apparently he has been on vacation for the latter half of last week and the guy who has been filling in must either be consumed with "air scare" or too busy researching music which he clearly has no knowledge of to be bothered covering for Tony satisfactorily. Now this is just purely my opinion, but Tony sounds GREAT on my way to work...like a friend in the passenger seat with me. I saw on the NJBA page that they are looking for a "new" morning man on WNNJ-AM. Is Tony's vacation a permanent one? If so, THAT IS ONE REAL MISTAKE. Speaking for myself solely, I know I will be moving onto my CD's or some other source for "real radio" because the guy that filled-in last week was pitiful. What I want in radio is music, a DJ that knows it, and a reason to stay tuned...even when the commercials come on. Tony's got all those qualities and MORE. If for some reason he is indeed being replaced, ANY station that grabs him will be VERY lucky to have a DJ like him on their staff.

Seems like people come and go alot from Clear Channel up in Sussex. Must an obvious reason for that: either they don't know talent when they see it or they're TOO CHEAP to pay for it. In the end when revenue is down I just saved them the task of researching "WHY" it is!

Let me just say that this is MY opinion as a "regular guy" that makes a living on the road and spends a great deal of time listening to the radio rather than my cell phone for ONE reason...I don't have to respond!! ;D

I haven't listened in quite awhile. Good to hear they still sound great. I wish they were on a clearer, stronger FM signal. Oh well.

Reason why the Sussex market is a revolving door is because this is a place where people often start in the business and move on to bigger and better things.

So is Max no longer with WNNJ AM?

Kevin asked:

So is Max no longer with WNNJ AM?

It is certainly looking that way, since the oldies1360.com website is no longer even acknowledging that he ever existed. Well, that's Clear Channel for you. :(

Unfortunately, Max is not doing well at all after that horrendous automobile accident this past winter on Rt. 23 in which some drunken idiot hit him from behind at 60 mph while he was stopped for a traffic light on his way home from work.

Please keep Max in your prayers for a full and healthy recovery. It is going to be an awfully long road for him to get there.
