Oldies 700 in Dothan

I heard that they were going to a different format after Jack Gale sold the station. Passed through Dothan on my way to Panama City Beach and they were still oldies back in late July. Did they ever flip, and did Jack leave town?

So far, as best I can tell, the fact that Jack Gale sold the station is only a rumor. Nothing has been filed with the FCC.

Greetings radio friends. I am the last employee of Jalo Broadcasting Corp. Here are the "true facts" about the current state of WEEL-AM, better known as Oldies700:

1. The station WAS sold, but the deal fell through.
2. Jack Gale and his wife Lovey moved back to their home in Florida.
3. Jack continues to do voiceovers for several national and regional accounts.
4. AM 700 is for sale along with an FM translator on 100.1 to simulcast the AM's programming 24/7.

We had a good thing going (programming wise, at least) at Oldies 700. The problems that had to be overcome have been discussed in detail on this board. I tried the best I could to make Oldies 700 sound good (from a technical standpoint) over the air and on the internet. Thank you to all the people that let me know how much you liked the station. It was a lot of fun to build and operate.

I might be crazy, but if I had the money, I might try again someday to build an "Oldies 700". In the mean time, I have taken a job with Chipola College in Marianna to help with their television and radio efforts.

Thanks again!

Tom (O'Brien) Smith

PS: If anyone out there wants to buy the station or has questions, contact me ([email protected]).

Is anything happening with Oldies 700, or is it likely to get deleted by the FCC in August?

It was a decent sounding station during the oldies days.
