Oldies 950 needed a good Doo Wop show...

It could have really added to thier lineup. I know this is a wasted post now, but I just am very surprised they never devoted time to it. Philadelphia is a Doo Wop town. As much as I respect The Geator, his show is not really focused on Doo Wop or one set genre in particular.

Doo Wop is a music form left best in yesteryear.

the Geator and all that info crap is what killed the station!if they would play oldies 24/7 and get live dj's 24/7 and have the power thay have at night in the day time to they would be #1 a 4.0 or better!!!!.the sports will not work out sports radio is not that big. if they would put the oldies on one of there fm stations that would be a killer that is what we need an fm station with all 50's and 60's

WHOA! boy did you commit a cardinal sin inPhilly! Sports radio is not that big.
I hope all the 610WIP guys don't pop up and flame this thread.A huge majority of guys are what keep WIP in buisness. And if sports radio isn't that big, then why in hell did 66WNBC flip to WFAN sports radio up in NYC ?

WIP has passionate listeners, but the reality is they were barely top 20 in the last overall ratings. If WPEN can manage to pick up a few shares of WIP listeners, will we have a battle of two 'major' AMs struggling to break the top 20? I know it's all about the male demos, but WIP's staff is getting older and WPEN has always sounded old, so I'm not sure the city can support 2 sports stations, even though I agree the oldies format wasn't working and some change was necessary. Just not sure a copycat sports format is the best choice.

You're kidding right? #1? WPEN never, ever would have been in the top 10 let alone #1, 24/7 music or not (nor would live DJs on weekends or overnights have made them a contender). Mainstream music formats on AM in major markets are a dying breed--for better or worse (I vote worse, but I know I'm not in the majority).
