OLDIES 950

The format change came at 6am with a recorded introduction by Jody Mac and Tony Bruno, promising "real sports talk", and "we're not even trying to compete with WIP". Followed by a leftover hair loss spot.

Last songs were "Break It To Me Gently", "The End" & "I Love You for Sentimental Reasons".

Re: Sports Talk 950

I listened to the last ten or so minutes of music and then about 30 seconds of the bumbling opening by Jody Mac. Not only low keyed but clumsy.

6:00 AM is before Philadelphia October FCC sunrise (which I believe is 7:15 EDT). Could you tell whether WPEN was running its new night pattern or was it back to its old 5 kW DA, as had been reported here earlier last week?

Re: Sports Talk 950

I heard some parodies of celebrities this morning on the new "Sportstalk 950" in the 8am hour...Did anyone find them funny?? And did anyone tell them Clinton was no longer President?? They had a bit featuring him that ran for a good 4-5 minutes that had me wondering if this had been a format change that had been planned some time ago and then shelved.

Re: Sports Talk 950

They were still 21KW with good audio.

Was the bit written in a way that made it seem like he was still president?

Oh my friggen God.....WPEN has only been on for not even a full day. The host bumbled the format flip, there was a hair plug commercial and the bits are "outdated". This station stinks....they should go dance tomorrow. We have too many stations that pander to overweight old Gen X rockers, even tho there are only 3 stations like that. It's still too much. WPEN should go dance tomorrow/ASAP or they will be doomed to failure. Every station should play what I like. Ich bin ein Berliner......WHOOPS! Sorry...<P ID="signature">______________

From what I was listening to this morning (Jody Mac & Joe Conklin's impressions), Jim Rome at lunch, and Jody Mac in his time slot, I like the program lineup. Yes, it is different from WIP, but I enjoyed listening. As far as Tony Bruno goes, I have always enjoyed him, whether on TV or radio. The WIP Morning Show has not been the same since he left it ten years ago.

Sports Talk 950...but, seriously

While Im happy to have Jody Mac and Tony Bruno back, I think PEN is going for overkill reruning them at night (Bruno 7-10PM, Jody Mac 10P-1A). Couldnt they hit the ground running with MAYBE Fox Sports Radio in place?

And, as far as morning drive, is Jody Mac pulling double duty, like he did Day One, or what's going on?

It's clear they still have Joe Conklin in-house. If they still have Vinnie the Crumb....I'd like to see a Crumb/Conklin combo for AM's.

OK, I went out for my nightly drive and noticed they were running FSR/JT the Brick. GOOD MOVE, even tho' he's a stinkin' Noo Yawkuh. Anyone catch the guy who called in, saying JT was great, but the station itself was God-awful? WOW!
