Oldies 97.1

I was just wondering how the station has been sounding lately. Are they a good oldies station? How are all the jocks? Just wondering. Thanks.<P ID="signature">______________

Well, I like it. The playlist seems to be moving out of the 50's (but not out entirely, thank goodness), and they picked up Mike Harvey on Sunday. They're doing local requests during the weeknights (no Truckin' Tom, thank goodness, again). They also play "American Gold" (nobody's perfect). I would hope they would expand the playlist on weekends to add some real forgotten 45's.

As for the jocks, Coyote, Cathy, and Bobby moved from 96.3 (a good thing). Haven't listened much during the day or at night, but Joe Limardi sounds good to me. Rob Michaels sounds too young to play oldies, but the show's okay. The weekend talent doesn't seem nearly as "seasoned" as the weekend talent was on 96.3. But, hey, I'm just glad someone picked up the format, 'cause "Jack" irritates the heck out of me.

You don't have to be old and crusty to play the oldies. In fact I think a young voice (especially at night) keeps it sounding fresh. Heck I was jocking on an oldies station when I was 18, and all of music was older than I was!

Rob Michaels has always been solid on the air no matter the format. I'd have left him in afternoon drive, but the powers that be at Cumulus decided otherwise.

Whoa!! I didn't mean to infer anything about his abilities as a jock, that his presentation wasn't solid or that I didn't like what he was doing. He just sounded young to me. The sound of his voice alone, and not his presentation made me recall some of the weekenders working during the very early days of Oldies 96.3 who obviously didn't seem to know or appreciate what they were playing (e.g. mispronouncing Bruce Channel). Kyle Cantrell is a walking encyclopedia on traditonal country music and has played a load of stuff that's older than him and does a super job at it. Rob certainly sounded like he knew his stuff and could carry the oldies format.
