Oldies: A New "Fresh" format?

Hey kids!
Here's a link you may find of interest. It's a report on the status of Oldies radio from Edison Research... Its title is "Oldies' New Lease on Life, Or Maybe An Extended Warranty."

http://www.edisonresearch.com/home/archives/2007/06/oldies_new_leas.php

At Heritage Radio, WKVA (Gold Hits 920), we have dropped alll reference to "Oldies" (including our web address) & have had huge success with the OldiesPLUS format from Waite Radio Network (WRN). Do you know how long it's been since hearing "Good Times" by Chic or "Knock on Wood" by Ami Stewart? The morning show I do is a mix of information/news/entertainment/features/music. I play about 7 songs per hour with features from CBS News & the prep service from X Prep/Gold.

Another great morning feature is a new program we've added called, "The Storm Report". A great 3 min. feature we run at 8:30 just before the weather. So far, we've heard some great comments from longtime listeners & the new ones who have "come back home" to WKVA.

Funny how the when you check out the website it still says "oldies" at the top of the page.

But I do see where you're coming from- I've been a fan of Tom Kent's "Classic Top 40" brand... I know he's on a lot of "former oldies" stations at night, and does a really good job of bringing a high level of excitement and passion to the updated format, without once mentioning the word "Oldies"

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun...the way radio was intended to be. I envy you!
Keep on rockin'!

Yeah, I know... so shoot me. :) I can control most of what goes on the site... the info in the title bar & the template are out of my hands.... that's why I specified "website address".

???But what's up with Oldies 96.1 posting ads for new part-time talent, especially after all the experienced talent they dumped? Sorry, I forgot...Cumulus was following in the steps of C.C.
