Oldies back on 101.1FM.....sort of....

According to R&R, WCBS-FM launches HD2 channel with the Oldies format they dumped last year.

Which version of CBS-FM, though? The one WITH the jocks, or without?

This is old news. Can you say "stale?"
This was long ago announced on http://www.wcbsfm.com/ where there is already a streamed version, which I would suspect will be the same stream that the HD signal gets.

And, unless digital radio becomes a standard sort of thing, HD radio will go the way of AM stereo, and nobody will really care...

Until every station is broadcasting in ditital, and the majority of radios sold are digital, the only WCBS FM that exists will be Jack-ed up.

Sadly, due to the way things were handled at CBS-FM, the famous legendary jocks will quite likely never return, unlike the deal the WJNK crew did in Chicago.

The odd thing is that HD2 channels are only 48Kbps from what I recall. My web station has a higher bitrate (and wider selection of tunes), not to mention the past problems Ibiquity had with their software and codecs. As far as I'm concerned, CBS-FM is a damaged property and they will most likely never garner the audience or market share that they has before they played with the format. My thanks to the brilliant folks at Infinity! They mucked up a once great station!

CBS again doing it on the cheap.

And don't forget those oh so brilliant programmers. Greg Strassel and Company.

All I can say is THANK GOD NRC BEAT CBS TO THE JACK PUNCH HERE IN DENVER!!! I think if they had pulled that stunt with KOOL 105 (KXKL 105.1) here in Denver, they'd have the entire city wanting to run them out of town ON A RAIL.

It's bad enough they dropped the Jammin' Oldies/Urban AC format they had on 92.5

WNMB in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is broadcasting in AM Stereo and there are lots of people who can and do listen in the AM Stereo (primarily cars); so let's not be quite so general in our observations. HD radio is no solution for AM. It is just another inequity. Bring a Boston Acoustics Hd radio to our beach and compare it with our AM Stereo even on a Ford Expedtion standard analog am. The AM stereo is clearly better. Since this is a topic about a New York station, I will cease, but just wanted to make the point.
