OLDIES/CLASSIC HITS IN ORLANDO?

There was some talk a while back about a new oldies/classic hits station possibly coming to Orlando (or a surrounding area).

Any more rumors about that becoming a reality?

OLDIES IN ORLANDO?

That talk hasn't stopped since WEBG 100.3 got nuked. There really isn't a potential "outside" signal that could move in and cover Orlando. There are a couple of dog stations in the market, but the companies who own them have been getting out of the Oldies business.

Classic Hits may still work.

OLDIES

Well, Rock AC WMMO is mostly a classic hits station already. Them along with sister classic rock WHTQ would make a pretty tight squeeze for a classic hits or Jack-type station. The 60s/70s mix WEBG had was working well, as evidenced by WMMO's skyrocked to #1 25-54 as soon as 'EBG went spanish.

CC had the right idea with 100.3 but weren't given the time, sad to say.

I agree. I think Cox whould probably have brought their "Eagle" format to 96.5 already, but that would hurt WMMO. In fact WMMO has been successful in becoming the default station for those displaced 60s/70s listeners.

I knew that WMMO had an interesting playlist, but I assumed they were AC. Did the playlist change drastically since last year when I travelled through O-Town? In fact, they are listed on varietyhits.com. There must be another AC. What is it?<P ID="signature">______________

The other AC station is 107.7 WMGF and it's a little more of a feminine mix with your Enya, Michael Buble, Celine Dion, Michael Bolton. WMMO seems slightly more male-oriented to me with more Eagles and rock and none of the aforementioned artists.

WMMO/AC

They're classified as a "rock AC"- it's like classic hits and a few recurrents from 1990-2005. They are a true one-of-a-kind radio station.

WMMO

And WOMX is a more Hot AC lean. WMMO plays virtually NO currents and just a few select recurrents. The "AC" in their descriptor is not really accurate since they're not really very contemporary- they're actually closer to a Jack, which is a big reason there's no Jack in the Orlando market.

HAHA Yeah I forgot about WOMX...with their eclectic mix of Hootie/SugarRay/Smashmouth how could they have ever slipped my mind?

WOMX

It's their morning show that saves them. Their music mix is pretty forgettable.

The music mix seems like the average Hot AC station. Have you ever listened to the morning show? Last year when I went through Orlando, it was during the day, so I never heard the morning show.

WOMX

Have heard it several times for a day or two at a time- it is THE strongest part of the station, including the music. If anybody was ever able to lure them away, they'd be in big trouble.

Funny you should bring that up. Remember when 100.3 was WDIZ? If the exact same playlist as WDIZ ran when they were "The rock of the '80s", then they could could be a popular classic rock station today. They actually din't just play '80s music, but Rock and roll from the mid '60s to current rock (Which was '80s). Everything from The Stones and Beatles to the mid '80s techno rock crossovers like Planet P and Modern English with a healthy dose of REO Speedwagon and Rush with a dash of early solo Ozzy and Van Halen (with Dave).

Ok, by now you have probably guessed that this is the station that first gave me the radio bug. While my parents were busy with the construction of EPCOT, I was listening to Mike Lyons and Carren Sheldon in the mornings and Mick Dolan in the afternoon. Yep, I made my parents drive to Daytona to get me a DIZ T-shirt, and I had to save my allowance for a pair of much coveted WDIZ Vans shoes. I saw my first wet t-shirt contest at the "DIZ Pig out", and was very impressed when I realized what it really was! To me, this is when Radio was Radio. This is why I am in the biz today. (not just the wet t-shirts, but the format and fun in general.)

Back on topic now... A station like this could clean up in O- town nowadays. Just watch Q-105 as they return to their roots in Tampa.
