Oldies...ever again?

They do have an old veteran programmer/jock that works for Davidson. Maybe they pressed him into service. ;D I think he normally does other duties.

Does anyone know how long it's going to be commercial-free? I can't see that lasting long. Maybe a week at the most.

How long has it been since Oldies 103.3/103.9 left the airwaves? Who owned it? It's rare that a station goes back to a previous format, but it's under different ownership now. I hope it is successful, because I had just about ruled out any station ever going to Oldies again..this was a surprise and definately a plesant one. They'll probably eliminate the more 'rare' songs as time goes on, more than likely.

Interesting to note, though....they're broadcasting out of the same studio (I think) that the (RIP) former Oldies 106 WGVC used.

Oldies 103.3 and 103.9 were owned by Sinclair, which was then sold to Entercom (yes, the same Entercom that killed Oldies 103 also killed Oldies 106.3).

Oldies 103 was satellite with ABC's Oldies Radio format until they went local the last year or so. I can't remember how long it's been... almost 5 years probably. Somebody else probably has more exact dates.

Oh, OK, thanks MarkL. Entercom sure does have some GOOD oldies stations to kill them off like that...one that comes to mind is Oldies93 WMQX in Greensboro, NC....that is one good station. I was hoping they would do something similar with 106.3, but unfortunately not. From what I see "The Walk" is doing no better than "Oldies" was. I wonder if there are some regrets at Entercom...

I emailed them at praize1033.com...wonder if they'll get it still? I can't find any other way to do it except call, they aren't there today, of course. I just suggested that they simulcast on 103.9...probably won't get anywhere but I just wanted to throw the idea out there. I would still like to know if whoever is leasing 103.3 also has 103.9. They might, because 103.9 was streaming 103.3 yesterday for a while, not that that means anything though.

Glad to hear it wasn't 96.7. 103.3 sounds pretty good...except I did just hear a Praize tune drop into the mix - that was interesting. Welcome back to radio Brian! The Spanish is still flowin' on the 3-9 and 910. And the Praize website is still active.

Actually that was Aretha 'Joy to the world', and Christmas tune. Hey Craig, great to see you on here. I heard many compliments on you a few years ago. Didn't you program 96.7 at some point? Maybe you were on The Planet at some point too. Couldn't remember---:) ::)

I told a lot of co-workers about it Friday and we were all listening to it and talking about how good it was...but, just as I thought, the only complaint I've heard from a few is the poor signal after you go west from Greenville.

Z100, maybe you know, did they get a new PD? I don't think it would be the same person that programmed Urban Gospel.

Listened non-stop from around 3 until 7, its sounding better. I've noticed that the songs seem to be played in blocks, a block of 60's, a block of 70's, a block of 'real' oldies, and so on, I would rather hear them mixed up than that way; let them know what you think at http://www.praize1033.com/contact_us.php [that email still works]

Doesn't that send e-mail to the people who ran the Praize format? I'm still wondering who is brokering the time for the oldies, and how can we contact them?

Are the people that are running 103.9 also running 103.3? Does anyone know if Praize's lease ran out, or what?

Good to see Bill Prather as the PD!

I don't think the term "blocked" applies. If you ever heard WLS, WCFL, WABC, WQXI, it reminds me of those days. The days when playing the hits was the goal. "Mass Appeal Contemp." I have noticed 'Oldies' is not mentioned, which is a good thing. Play the hits, play the music. No need to categorize it. I think that is part of the reason for the decline in that format. LOL At least Mr. Arbitron tells us that---:))) Play em like they were played when they were currents, or when we were there!! NOT like we hear them played, AND altered to fit the new notion. The terms oldies and oldies but goodies is worn out, AND a negative with many demos! :-X

Hi, Z. Actually, I'm still @ The Buzzard and yes, I was at the other place you mentioned. I know most of you folks on here probably only see the 12+ junk but we're actually doing quite well....making money, ratings with the core...the whole bag. Our website is the #1 rock station for CC on a regular basis and there's a few other things where we're kicking ass. Just remember, your wife uses more wattage drying her hair each day than we do trying to compete against 100,000 watters. My best wishes to the Oldies folk hope all goes well. Now maybe we can get back to that smooth jazz rumor for 96.7! I'm well familiar with the 'only complaints is I can't get you in....' Good times.

Right on Craig! Yeah...you guys are very consistent. That's great. An ole friend of mine, "GT"( KISS, ESC, etc) speaks highly of you. All the best over there!! Take care. Oh.....BTW...I love your sweepers--:)

I haven't heard any commercials on there, let alone any airstaff. It would be great if Bill afternoons.

I emailed...told them that it was sounding great and to keep up the great work and of course I suggested the simulcast on 103.9.

I don't the simulcast will ever happen they make a lot of money off of 910 and 103.9 and I don’t think they will give that up.

I'm just grateful we got 103.3 its WAY better than nothing.

Yeah, they said it's already leased to the "Spanish brokers." You're right, it IS better than nothing, we're doing better than we were this time last week
I'm still shocked that they did this...it looked like 103.3 was doing well as Urban Gospel. They haven't even bothered to update their site yet. lol
