Oldies format

Wish XM had a channel that plays the hits 60's to late 70's on one channel. Get tired of switching from the 50's on 5 to 70's on 7.

The closest you'll get to that wish is Cousin Brucie on 60s on 6 Saturdays at 8PM ET. He plays 50s through the 70s, although mostly focussing on late 50s through mid 60s.

Be glad you have the option of even listening to 50s & 60s on radio anymore......SiriusXm 50s & 60s channels each have playlists of over1300 titles, throw in the 70s on 7 800 songs and you have "oldies" of over 3400 songs available. If your locale even has a "oldies" station anymore they probably play 300-400 songs. I for one dont mind hitting the button between 5, 6 & 7 on my satellite radio. 8)

I second that emotion. Easy enough - just have a channel that plays's XM "IT" over and over year round - every charting song, and then some - don't know why they don't bring that back - the best ever on XM - and they jacked-up the bitrate of the channel playing IT, to make it even better!
If they can't do "IT", then a station that played Top 40 across the board from '56 to '80 would be super-sweet in my book too.

I just sent them an email asking for a channel that played all big hits from 1955-1989

Not an icicle's chance in the Sahara. Both XM and Sirius committed early to the decade-specific approach to pop oldies. Why would they change when all their focus groups and research gurus keep telling them that's what the sheeple want?

Who tells them to keep all those dedicated artist channels?
Elvis, The Dead, Buffett, Springsteen, at least give me an all Beatles channel!
Do people really listen to more than two or three songs at a time?

Oh God, please NO. Keep the decade channels. It gives us greater variety and better playlists. If a channel only did 55-79, it would only be the top tunes. Anyone can hear that anytime in commercial radio.

All those channels pay for their bandwidth on Sirius XM. They make money for the corporation and aren't going anywhere. If Sirius XM could strike a similar "legal payola" deal with the Beatles' estate, it certainly would.

I'll put my vote in for a decent Adult Standards channel. Siriusly Sinatra doesn't cut it. There are lots of hit standards they don't play over there.

Good luck in getting the Noo Yawkers at Sirius to provide anything more than a token channel or two for the 55-to-dead demographic. Think what their friends on Madison Avenue might think! Heaven forbid satellite radio might be seen as a medium that appeals to -- yuck -- OLD people! ::)

What they don't realize is there are a lot of geezers with XM radios. In a subscription system our money is as good as anyone else's. I know what you mean though. My musical tastes run older, newer, and skew in different directions than most people in my generation. My parents liked my music and I liked theirs. Zero generation gap.

I think you mean "75-to-dead." Sirius already has the 50s, 60s, Classic Vinyl, Elvis, Deep Tracks and several other music and talk formats that effectively reach people between 55 and 75. Don't forget: A high school sophomore when Elvis was big in '56 is now 70! A high school sophomore when Benny Goodman was big is now 88. And a high school sophomore when the Beatles invaded (college age during Woodstock) is now, GULP, 62!

As a "geezer" I've actually moved beyond satellite radio to internet radio. It's cheaper, more variety, and I can listen on my computer without paying extra as I did with XM/Sirius.

It took thirty five years to get the technology I had dreamed of back in the mid sixties. Now, it will take about a decade for me to abandon it for something better. I still need to justify my lifetime subscription. I might continue with XMROL (XM Radio Online).

Actually, those channels (along with Eminem's Shade channel and the Sinatra estate's channel) are paid for by SXM. It's the temporary artist channels like the Rolling Stones' or The Who's or Metallica's that are paid for by the bands and/or their labels.
