Oldies in Dubuque

Just wondering who does better overall in the Dubuque Market for the oldies audience, WDBQ-FM or WPVL-FM. Interesting that there are TWO oldies stations surrounding the market when a lot of areas no longer have ANY.

I'm sure someone can correct me if need be, but I don't believe WPVL plays in the Dubuque market much at all.

WPVL is technically part of the Dubuque market, as is the other 2 Queen B stations, WGLR and KIYX.

As far as ratings go, I believe WDBQ pulls in better ratings (as of the last publicly shown Arbitrons last year, they were #9...WPVL was #18), but both are basically 'on the bird' most of the day.

Part of the problem is WPVL's signal limitations. It's only 6000 watts of power, and their transmitter is up on a ridge between Platteville and Potosi. I think WDBQ might have better coverage of Dubuque...not sure where their transmitter is, though. Anyone have that info?

According to Radio-Locator.com, WDBQ's tower is located just southeast of Galena, Illinois (I believe this is the old WJOD tower site) at 6000watts. WPVL is loaced as described previously, at 4200watts.

My guess is that WPVL doesn't do much in Dubuque because of this, but I think KIYX is better able to cover the metro (opperating as a Classic Hits, IIRC.)
