Oldies in the Hudson Valley??

Now that WKIP has switched to talk, and Since WHVW only does oldies in the morning, does anyone see a full time oldies station showing up here in the Hudson Valley??...Yeah you can talk all you want about the demo's for the 54+ folks out there, but I still say somebody could walk away with this niche format...forget 92.9, and mess 97 is mostly elevator (ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZz) music. It's up for grabs and I know it would fly. If the owner of WHVW went all oldies all the time, he could walk away with it as the programming is live and local.....

Discussion?? ??? ???

Flameproof suit on....

Interesting thread, warm590. I know that oldies is not showing up to the Hudson Valley, just like CBS-FM did with "Jack" two years ago. As of right now, HV still has no oldies station here. But I checked WGNY-AM, but it comes okay in the daytime at 1220 AM from Newburgh comes right towards Kingston. I noticed that WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" signal is garbage, but it does not come well, but it was nearly covered by WBWZ's "Star 93.3" signal. That might be problem.

As for my idol, Rick McCaffery hosting the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on Friday nights, I'm not really sure how long will it last on WKIP? But it doesn't fit in the talk schedule. Maybe there's gonna be a way to find out if they could end up some place else like WCZR? I don't know!

Up in Albany, WTRY has oldies, but I don't see it coming back to the Hudson Valley anytime soon. Will see. Patience is a virtue.

Just skip over Disney.

Hmm, lets see. Does anyone even know that WHVW is on the air? Seriously. They barely have an audience. I love the station, and wish there were more like it, but WHVW flipping to all oldies wouldn't make a difference.

No one knows how to properly execute an oldies format... except maybe the people behind what was WWKB 1520 when they were still an oldies station. You can't keep playing the same crap and expect people to listen. You have to dig deeper than "Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" ::)

I understand that Highlandradio. I'm trying to explain that WKNY in Kingston, NY has oldies on Saturday afternoons from noon until 7:00 PM with Warren Lawrence playing your favorite oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. They have a doo-wop show from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and the slow dance hour from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM. After that, WABC still carries the "Saturday Night Oldies Show" with Mark Simone. I guess WABC had a good signal coming in to Poughkeepsie and the entire Hudson Valley listening to oldies on Saturday nights except pre-emptions from Army Football and Rangers hockey.

Good discussion....if WHVW spent some $$$ on billboards and newspaper advertising and switched over to oldies I think it would take off; they do strictly 50's and 60's from 6-9 am, and go deep with very little repitition. Many hard core listeners will go to am if they know the stuff they like is there...the format is there for the taking and the music director / Morning drive host could program it, as he's a seasoned pro....

Flash,

WVOS FM is going oldies as of today at Noon (Halloween.) It will be patterned after WCBS FM. The station drops the country format. There are too many country stations in the region. Management believes the oldies format will be more marketable. WVOS AM will simulast the oldies until it's filled with sydicated talk programming. And the big news is that Max Kinkel (Supermax back in the day at CKLW) will be doing the morning show live! He's building a house in Sullivan County and will commute from the metro area until it's completed. Have a nice day everyone.

Thanks so much for the info, I wish that one of these stations should go oldies due to the return of CBS-FM since July. WBPM's "Classic Hits 92.9" is playing too much AOR garbage with some hits in between (just like the former WRKW was back the "Quality Rock" days, but HV need a "Greatest Hits" format to appeal to fans that brought CBS-FM back to the airwaves. WVOS can't reached Ulster and Orange counties.

If any station like "Lite-FM" should go all-Christmas, maybe there is some speculation that one of these stations should flip to oldies. I looked up on WKIP's site that the "Solid Gold Jukebox" with Rick McCaffery was dropped on WKIP due to the change from standards to talk about 2 weeks ago. I missed that show when it was on 92.9 back in late January, but let's hope Rick should end up on another station. I love Rick McCaffery a lot, but let's hope if this should end on other stations such as WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" or something else. Will see.

pass it on over to me, paulie...make it a double dose....
