Oldies-JJ-Karen & Pete Falconi-Strike 1?

Well, the concensus of the opinion from those that work in the industry seems to be that this is a bad moove.

Not that Karen is not a good jock, or a nice person...but that they hardly see the fit of Karen onto Oldies.

-

Somebody mentioned ratings...Here's what we got:

Yes, for the book, Odlies (PM Drive)was in 12th spot 25-54. (They had been in 3rd place to 14th place over the last year.

The two trends since the Spring book have been good. In July JJ was 5th. In August JJ was tied for 6th. Yes the afternoon numbers do jump around.

(To be fair, Dales numbers have not been stellar....he was 10th place in the Spring book for AM Drfive. Beaten by ZLX (WKLB-Country was in 12th.)

-

From a previous post:

>>>>Z-945 was a success until its purchase and later course change to hip hop.

>>As for linking Karen Blake to the over all failure of a weak frequency that lacked marketing and strong company leadership is a stretch at best and more likely ignorance at its worst. <<

No, not ignorance. Fact. Karen was there....the station did not do well. Nor did Eagle or Star. However, to be fair, she may have been one of the few 'right' things happenning at that(those) station(s).

She does have a high profile and appears to be likable (and memorable) from audience research.

However, JJ's track record is much better. He was at WRKO during their most sucessful years and then went on to spend 18 years at Kiss 108, during their most sucessful reign. (Two of the highest cuming stations in Boston radio history.)

The ratings don't really seem to point to a reason for JJ's sudden removal.

I am guessing that it was either personal....or the fact that Karen is available. (And maybe contribute to bringing some former Star loyalists over?)

It is a move to a slightly younger crowd.

BTW..Didn't Falconi and Blake work together at Eagle?

Is he bowled over by her "star" status?

Lacked Marketing? WHAT DID YOU CALL ALL OF THOSE LEEZA GIBBONS TV SPOTS? be serious for a second. Also as for ZOu that was also over ten years ago and if they had been doing that well numbers wise they would still be a mainstream chr, the truth is they could never beat Kiss until they hired Steve Rivers and a year later he was AT kiss. Let's not lose check with reality.

Just an FYI....The comments you are responding to were not made by me, they are just a previous comment/post I quote on my post.

BTW....You'll also note that the writer was referring to Z-945....and Not Star. (Star had the Leeza spots, not Z-945.)

Yes I knew that sir.

No I did not know that, I thought the post referred to Star not having any marketing. Please accept my apology for the misunderstanding.

Changes are made everyday at radio stations across the country. All the good DJ's at "Star" lost their jobs. That could have been all the DJ's at oldies who knows! Both JJ and Karen are great at what they do...but they do it differently. I do think this move is excellent it will freshen up Oldies and maybe bring some new listeners over from other stations. I've heard the way people talk about Karen and a lot of them do really like her - they think she is their friend. Listeners are the ones that fill-out ratings diaries and those are the people that ultimately matter. I think she connects with people in a way that JJ doesn't.(that is not a put down to JJ it's just my observation) I think the station can only gain listeners with the addition of Karen Blake. I see it as a WIN!

"I LOVE MUSIC", I believe you have 6 (yes six!) different posts on this board talking about how *wonderful* you think Karen is. (We get it!)

You also seemed to be the FIRST ONE who first posted the news about JJ and Karen.

I'm gonna guess you are someone on the 'inside'....either you're Pete Falconi, or a friend of Karen's....which negates most of your posts as being self-serving.....

After all, did you need six posts to say that you love Karen?

I'm Pete Falconi's brother, Karen Blake's cousin and JJ Wrights long lost brother. Who are you? An out of work board-op?

Oh,and I wasn't the one to first post the news about JJ and Karen that was "Iloveradio". I guess that negates your post!

I do think she may connect with middle aged Revere women better than someone like JJ but is that who oldies is targeting? not even close. Yes Karen Blake has a certain Boston charm in that she sounds like the yucks listening but so did Steve Sweeney.....

I rest my case.

JJ is a million times more solid than KB, end of story. This has to be another infinity Boston bean counting excercise; in short another bad move.

Kiss from 1980's at Infinity Boston (repost)

Hmmm....

Let's stop and analyze this for a bit...
Dale Dorman, formerly of Kiss,
Karen Blake formerly of Zou (oh yeah, she did time at Kiss too),
JJ Wright fomerly of Kiss (I bet that overnight shift is VT'd),
and Lady D, fomerly of Kiss,
all in the same building.

Yawl see a pattern here?
I don't believe WODS will switch to Jack, that ship has sailed. But I sure would like to see an 80's format on 98-5, or maybe 103.3!

One thing is certain, when you hire a bunch of Italian Chefs to a Chinese Kitchen, don't expect the place to be serving Chinese food for much longer...

Are you referring to Clay-ah?

Isn't Mike essentially an 80s station? It seems to me that 2/3 of their playlist is from the 80s-mid 90s with a few 70s or 00s tracks thrown in.

Whatever...

One in the same.

(Next it will be "I LOVE KAREN" and 62 more posts....but definitely an insider with self-serving motives and postings.)
