Oldies now on HF

I'm hearing thru the ham community that station ownership has been notified of the problem. I cannot hear the program audio on 3920, just the heterodyne. However on 2800 Khz (5th Harmonic) the program audio is clearly heard.

How far away from the towers are you guys? If you're hearing 5th and 7th harmonics and you're not very very close, then something is very very wrong. What about the 2nd harmonic on 1120? How far away can you hear that?

A group of amateur operators gather on 3920Khz daily at 4PM for a "ragchew". Most are from the New England states, and over the past week several reported a constant tone or hetrodyne on or about 3920. As I understand it, an operator contacted the American Radio Relay League in Newington Ct and requested assistance in finding the source of interference and ARRL personnel determined the probable cause was the station in Catskill NY licensed to 560Khz. I've heard the station was operating on an STA for lower power due to transmission line damage last summer occurring during grasscutting around one of their 3 towers.

WCKL has been a mess ever since Brian Dodge's Family Broadcasting took over 2.5 years ago. There have been numerous issues and he has not a clue as to what he is doing. I am surprised the FCC allowed him to purchase the station in the first place, as he has run afoul of them before when he owned stations in Massachusetts. The FCC should shut him down until the pending sale to Love Church is completed and the equipment can be fixed. This is by far the most serious problem the station has had that I know of. There have been issues of barely understandable audio and significant bleed over onto adjacent channels, well above the norm. Dodge was looking for the donation of a transmitter last year to replace the one they are using which dates to the original owner, from the mid 1960’s.

In all fairness to the owner of WCKL, sometimes these harmonic spurs are found to be caused by re-radiation from another transmitter site. Strange things do happen.
