Oldies On The Internet

What is the best? My Station is on my profile!

I don't know if there is a "best". I couldn't get your stream to open, so I can't give an opinion. The beauty of internet radio is that it can be really "fine-tuned'. In my case, I like early '50s pop thru the mid-60's, up to the early Beatles. I've found that the internet station that serves me best so far is Doo Wop Express on Loud City. In spite of its name, it's not really a Doo Wop station. They will play anything that charted between 1950 and about 1965 (and some stuff that didn't chart). Radio Bop on Loud City is also a pretty good station. But they're starting to move too much into the later '60s for my taste.

The free shoutcast servers kept shutting off, so i might go back to Live 365. I found a site called radiogeorge.com that has songs from 1955 to 1975! I enjoy it. They don't stream but use a flash player to play the songs!

RichBroRadio & KRTH-HD2 (Kearth Classics) have great oldies and consistent streams. They are my GoTo when I'm not listening to KOOL102, here in Las Vegas.

Rich Brothers is superb, amazing playlist, they are veteran programmers.......KRTH in LA sucks....is the HD stream a different playlist, The LA broadcast playlist is as shallow as the Rio Grande in July. And when i used to travel to vegas 10 years ago , i preffered the K-Jewel, which was a was better mix and deeper, but that was 10years ago, back then Kool 102 played 300 songs period..

1. Today's over-the-air broadcast KRTH 101 is not the same music playlist as found on KRTH CLASSICS on HD2. KRTH HD2 is sooooooooooo much better -- only 50's-60's-Early 70's "Good stuff". The broadcast KRTH 101 has late 60's-70's and some 80's...

2. KOOL 102 has not been around that long. The format followed FOX TALK RADIO, KDOX AM 1280 & FM 102.3, when they changed format earlier this year. KOOL 102 plays late 50's, all the Sixties and some Seventies. The main emphasis is on early/mid Sixties, with Motown thrown in.

(You may be thinking of earlier Las Vegas stations KBGO 93.1 and 105.9 broadcast out of Boulder City, that went by the moniker of KOOL. Way back in the late 1980's, the 105.9 station was originally KRRI. The 105.9 station went dark, when it took the KOOL format to 93.1. Then, 93.1 KOOL switched from their format Party music.)

Thanks I'm going to Vegas in Oct ''I'll check it them out...

Are there any DJs on KRTH HD2?

KLUV HD-2. , hylitradio.com, popgoldradio.com are three great places to start.

Oldies 76,
Yes, you are right.
I have also spent time with WLNG Long Island, NY 92.1 FM, 950 AM KRWZ Denver area and KDYL 1060 AM near the Salt Lake City area. They are other stations to consider listening to.

Three way tie for "traditional" 50s-60s oldies IMHO. My vote goes to Radio Bop, Radio Bop 60s, and RichBro. Pretty much comes down to my mood. The Bop streams go deeper but RichBro goes deep enough and includes some classic jingles from legacy top 40 stations. Honorable mention goes to Hy Lit Radio, WDJO, and a couple of Canadian stations. Hy Lit is every bit as good as my personal top 3, and would be the top choice for anyone wanting a little more doo-wop/east coast flavor in the mix. WDJO is the best all-around and best-sounding terrestrial station, PERIOD. I like the Canadian steams because of the variety mandated by Can-con rules. CKOC is the best of these, although the lack of a high bitrate stream is a little annoying.

For Pop Standards, Martini in the Morning absolutely blows away everything else out there. Loaded with fresh contemporary versions of old standards and smartly presented by Brad Chambers. Mrs Cyberdad has it on in the house all the time. For my money, as slick and professional sounding as it gets.

Ah yes but haven't you heard, all that testing, Indicates the listeners have to hear the same tired 20 songs over and over and over, over...wink, wink.
I wonder when the testers might try those 28,000 other songs that charted between 1955-1975.

That darn testing. Even the 50s & 60s channels on XM are playing the same songs over & over. They never used to do that.

If you listen long enough.....people raved about satellite radio when It first came out, like it was so much better...they were clever enough to disguise the packaging , all 50's , all 60's , all Sinatra, All Elvis, all big band, all santana, all doo-wop etc, eventually the novelty wore off and It was the same tired tunes, just a different packaging, and to add insult to injury, you have to pay for It ....the guys programming satellite are recycled commercial radio Programmers :-\...I stiil say the best programming is on the net....Rick Bros, Live365, etc :D

KRTH-HD2 is pretty good. I probably should've given it an "honorable mention" in my list of personal faves. I do listen on a semi-regular basis. It's commercial free, good audio, good presentation, good energy level (considering it's automated). But while they play a lot of good stuff that terrestial radio has abandoned, they still don't go very deep in the grand scheme of things. Basically still a bunch of safe songs....but which now happen to appeal to those outside of "desirable" demos.

I listen to KRWZ sometimes, also try KWRP 690 Pueblo, a VERY good mix of 50's to the early 80's.

Is KRTH-HD2 available on the web?
