Oldies out, talk is in at 3 valley radio stations

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Although as I have said before ,local stations repeating programs available on the big stations only provides a clearer signal for a small area. Nevertheless , kudos to them for having a local morning show . Local content , although more expensive than satellite programming is essential to do the format right . On the flip side this appears to end of standards in the mid Hudson Valley, at least for now . I thought perhaps someone could put it on HD2 , but then again I doubt many geezers have HD radios.

Well, ' bnr was the last station playing any variety in the area. Oldies format is up for grabs. Only one left is 6-9 on WHVW, where veteran DJ Curt Roberts plays a wide variety of 50's- 60's oldies. After that, its talk, then hokey-*ss cowboy hillbilly music that nobody wants to listen to. The owner is a few bricks shy of a dormatory. This station could make $$$$ if it had a format.... whatta waste.........

Another wasted opportunity by a schmuck that hasn't got a clue....

oldies4ever ???

Hey reality is knocking...Nobody cares about oldies!

Wrong, superhead....for a small AM niche station like WHVW, Full time oldies is a good fit. Think local; plenty of mom and pop businesses will buy advertising. And if you think no one listens, tune in friday 6-9 when Mr. Roberts has his all request show- there are so many requests that sometimes he cant get them all in 3 hrs. The big stations don't buy the fact that "geezers" , as they say, don't fit the demo, but they do have and spend $$$. As I said for a small station with a small budget, it's a good fit. Good local listener base.

oldies4ever ;D

Sorry to see the "Timeless Favorites" go from WGHQ and other "Sound of the Valley" stations. There is only one station that plays standards is WHUC, and they are not going to change formats anytime soon. They also carried TOH CNN Radio News (just like WBPM did on weekends) and some satellite WW1 standards. I hope the station WHUC is survive and they will not be flipping anytime soon.

WKNY is the only station that plays oldies every Saturday afternoon with Warren Lawrence and they will still be playing for a couple of hours.

Dr. Laura is now being heard on WGHQ starting Monday, she is also being heard on WNYM's "970 The Apple" (formerly WWDJ) in New York City.

I going to miss oldies very much, if I don't, maybe someday, I will get a satellite radio or something else.

I live a few miles from the WGHQ studio, but haven't listened to them in 20 years, and even then it was to hear the local weather in pre-internet days. I DO, however, make it a point to listen to the Doo Wop Show on WKNY ever Sat. afternoon. Warren's music knowledge is all-encompassing, and very entertaining!

As I was listening to the station, I guess WGHQ went to talk after two years of playing older oldies as "Timeless Favorites", back in around 2005 or 2006 it was News/Talk 920 where they carried Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, Michael Savage and Sean Hannity. Now it's Dr. Laura and Fox Sports Radio, just like WOFX in Albany at 980 and 1530 Homer in Cincinnati.

And speaking of older oldies, I applaud WHUC for flipping to talk, just a mixed bag of standards from WW1 with some oldies thrown in. WHUC is still a great station where it has Jeff Rollins, Chick Watkins and others on that station under "Great Songs and Great Memories", just like the former WMTR 1250 in Morristown, NJ back in the day where it beams right into Brooklyn, NY.

Great to hear standards and oldies on WHUC again. I hope the station would last long, kudos to you!
