Oldies returns in Knoxville, TN!

Citadel's WOKI-FM in Knoxville, TN has flipped from "98.7 Earl FM" to Shannon's True Oldies format. It is satellite right now, but at least it's Oldies and on a full-market signal. The website, http://www.987earlfm.com/, has yet to be updated.

Good job Citadel...

Yes, good job Citadel... One correction though, I wouldn't call 98.7 a "full market signal." The tower is a bit north of Knoxville and only cranks out 8,000 watts. The southern part of the Knoxville market can't pick up the signal very clearly.

Yeah, good job Citadel ::) An uninspired cheaply run satellite station. If this is the best they can do, I will just stick to my Sirius and XM subscriptions. I can already get national formats there with a lot more variety and better presentation.

They should do it locally in a market the size of Knoxville. Even if it is voicetracked and automated, it would be better than a cheap satellite format. I'm very dissapointed with this flip. Citadel doesn't seem to be willing to put any real money into the 98.7 signal at all.

Radio gave up on ME a year ago. WHO CARES? My i-pod is better than any radio. Life goes on.

You are probably a geek. An "average" listener would be GLAD to get oldies back.Scott Shannon's format is better than most. It's not some local kid who never heard half the songs and mispronounces lots of artists. Shannon gets good numbers because of lots of research. It does fine in Chicago.
