Oldies Streamer

It looks like that have two major problems.

I took a listen and for streaming at 128k their audio quality is not too consistant. It varies from decent to dreadful. Pretty much a waste for a 128k stream.

The other more major problem is they're not streaming artist and title information to Live365, which delists them from the public directory. Being a "Pro" tier station they're responsible for reporting their own royalties with ASCAP/BMI/SESAC & SoundExchange since Pro 'casters are not covered by the Live365 blanket license, which only covers those in personal webcast class (like myself). Unless they have some way of logging tracks from their player my hunch is they're in non-compliance with DMCA.

They may have decent selection but from the sampling I heard it was pretty pedestrian.

Well I took a listen to the station and have to say the previous poster was WAY off base with his remarks.

First the station sounds great! The only quality variances I noticed came from older songs that were recorded poorly originally.

Second I sent your comment about the licensing from Live365.com to Live365 support and they told me you were wrong and apparently plan to contact you regarding your misrepresentation of their service.

And finally before you go around trashing the sound of other people’s streams you might consider running a better quality stream yourself talk about a poor quality stream.

So keep up the good work IRandRS! And don’t listen to those who would make hurtful comments just because they are jealous of what you have.

From the sampling time I had listened to their stream, there were selections that had no high end that one would expect on a 128k stream with the same songs. I compared their audio with several other Live365 and Shoutcast streams at the same or similar bit rate transmission BEFORE I made any written comments.

Yes, I do stand corrected on the issue of music licensing and I am man enough to admit that. On certain Pro level packages Live365 does offer licensing for pro'casters, but from what Live365 had told the three terrestrial broadcast clients I had set up with them was that they (meaning the streaming pro'caster) needed to pass the song metadata to the Live365 playlist server to be eligible for pro'caster music licensing - do you need the name of the salesperson who told these stations this information? At the time I am writing this very post it appears their stream is still not in compliance as the play button is greyed out on their Live365 station page and I was unable to look up their stream from the Live365 directory main page. They should be able to see their de-listed status on their broadcast stream home page. This information they need to become compliant is also openliy discussed in Live's broadcaster forums which all client streamers have open access to as well.

Somebody's panties are in a bunch, aren't they? Did I strike a nerve? I'll be the first to state that everybody's entitled to their opinion, which is why this board is here, but it sounds like you're taking it too much to heart if you're not involved with their operation.

In response to your comment about my stream, I've received many compliments on my 64k MP3Pro audio stream from not only listeners, but from other broadcast engineers and terrestrial stations. In fact, two of the three terrestrial FM stations I got as clients asked me to help them get online or improve their online audio after listening to my stream. Mind you, except for Live365's updated licensing information that you corrected me on, I made no malicious comments in my post.

At least I have the onions to use my name in my posts!

Thanks for the kind words. It seemed that one poster took issue with my comments that the stream initially referenced in this thread just didn't have the fidelity that one would expect from a 128k stream. I don't run 128k due to bandwidth limitations (both on my ISP as well as for the service tier I subscribe to on Live365) so I felt 64k in mp3Pro was a decent comprimise. It's granted that many people are unaware of what mp3Pro is or that they need an mp3Pro-equipped player to take advantage of the extended audio fidelity, but mp3Pro does give an advantage to a bandwidth-challanged stream. Those who have listened to my stream using Live's Radio365 player or other mp3Pro equipped player have remarked positively about the sound. Mind you, on a typical mp3-only streaming player there is a small performance hit when compared to a stream encoded in standard mp3 format, but most people either don't mind or go for enhanced player software once they're aware of its existance.
